Summer Camp: Counselor Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Counselor Supervisor assists in the supervision of counselors and staff. Due to close contact and overnight supervision of a Girl Scout minor girl population in this residential setting, the Summer Camp Counselor  must be female.  

Key Responsibilities:

· Directly supervise and hold weekly meetings with Adventure Staff and Camp Counselors.  

· Oversee units and assist in the assignment of staff and campers to individual tents/cabins/yurts.  

· Coordinate daily announcements and special recognitions.  

· Maintain records of badges, who has earned specific patches/badges, and inventory of badges/patches remaining.  

· Collect and disperse mail daily.  

· Assist the Summer Camp Manager in developing routines, staff schedules, and procedures for camp operations.  

· Conduct mid-summer and end of summer evaluations for camp counselors and adventure staff.  

· Maintain inventory of adventure and unit equipment throughout the season and request equipment as needed.  

· Oversee weekly unit cookouts-inventory, ordering, distribution, and execution. 

· Ensure adventure staff and camp counselors implement programming in full compliance with all council, camp, and safety procedures

· Review all lesson plans for Adventure with the Summer Camp Manager to ensure safe and quality programming according to ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology) and GSHPA guidelines.

· Ensure that core unit supplies are prepared and stocked in unit boxes prior to the start of each camp week, and make sure counselors clearly understand how to use those supplies and deliver the planned unit activities. 

· Coordinate the development of resource boxes, which provide rainy-day activities for when adventure and unit program areas are unable to operate due to weather or equipment failure. 

· Plan and lead staff meetings for all camp staff when Summer Camp Manager is absent.  

· Participate in Camp Administration meetings and provide ongoing coaching and support to camp staff.

· Conduct daily unit inspections.  

· Assist in the execution of the GSHPA crisis management plan for emergencies that may occur during camp at any time, day or night.  

· Keep written records of the Summer Camp units and unit programs, make formal reports, and submit within established deadlines.  

· Support the camper check-in and check-out process.  

· Assist in covering ratio in units and fill in as a Camp Counselor when necessary.  

· Follow all ACA and GSUSA guidelines in all activity areas.  

· Abide by GSHPA code of conduct, rules, and expectations.  

· Perform other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

· Minimum 21 years of age, 25+ preferred. 

· High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree (or in process of obtaining) in Camp Administration, Education, Outdoor Education or related degree, or equivalent experience preferred. 

· Previous experience working in a camp leadership setting required. 

· Demonstrated ability to motivate girls to participate in activities and lead activities in a flexible, professional manner and in accordance with GSHPA strategies. 

· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.  

· Ability to develop and lead activities. 

· Attend and complete pre-camp trainings. 

· Experience working with children. 

· Ability to live and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. 

· Ability to walk a mile over uneven terrain. 

· Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards. 

· Ability to adapt well to changing circumstances, direction, and strategy. 

· Ability to work with diverse populations in a group setting. 

· Strong verbal communication, organizational, and public speaking skills. 

· Must be able to pass required background checks. 

· Must present a current form of ID affirming female gender at time of hire. 

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. 

· Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
