Help Create Positive Change, One Person at a Time

Arc of Onondaga is seeking a compassionate, determined professional to join our Clinic Department as a Behavioral Support Specialist.

In this role, you'll help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build skills, achieve personal goals, and experience greater independence and quality of life. Working alongside our Behavioral Intervention Specialist and interdisciplinary teams, you'll play an important role in developing and implementing individualized behavior supports that are respectful, person-centered, and focused on positive outcomes.

If you're passionate about behavioral support, advocacy, and helping people thrive, this is an opportunity to build a career with purpose.

About the Role

As a Behavioral Support Specialist, you will support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) for individuals receiving services through Arc of Onondaga.

You'll develop a strong working knowledge of regulations and requirements related to behavior support, human rights, and restrictive or intrusive interventions. You'll also participate as a member of program planning teams and help ensure individuals receive appropriate and necessary psychological and behavioral services.

What You'll Do

  • Support the Behavioral Intervention Specialist in developing and implementing individualized Behavior Support Plans.

  • Assist with gathering information and conducting assessments to better understand behavioral needs and identify appropriate supports.

  • Apply Functional Behavior Assessment techniques to help identify the underlying factors contributing to behaviors.

  • Monitor and support implementation of Behavior Support Plans across service settings.

  • Participate as an active member of interdisciplinary and program planning teams.

  • Help ensure behavioral and psychological services are appropriate, necessary, and aligned with each individual's needs and goals.

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of applicable regulations and requirements related to Behavior Support Plans, human rights, and restrictive/intrusive supports.

  • Promote positive, respectful, and person-centered approaches to behavioral support.

  • Maintain appropriate documentation and support compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.

  • Advocate for the rights, dignity, choices, and well-being of the people we support.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related Human Services field.

  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

  • Training in Functional Behavior Assessment techniques, or willingness to complete required training.

Ideal Candidate

  • Compassionate and respectful in their approach to behavioral support.

  • Committed to person-centered practices and the rights of individuals receiving services.

  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Strong in communication, organization, and documentation.

  • Eager to learn and apply behavioral support strategies and regulatory requirements.

  • Motivated by the opportunity to help individuals achieve meaningful goals and greater independence.
