The Lead Controls & Protection Design Engineer is responsible for the Complete Engineering related to Protection and control panel, CTVT adequacy check, Relay setting calculation and complete GEV product knowledge of full range of Protection relay products in the Protection & Controls Services Business portfolio. As well as Internal/External reporting: Lead controls & Protection Design Engineer may report to the Project Manager, Customer (Main contractor), client, the plant/utility owner, and the construction firm, giving daily or weekly updates on job progress or as needed. Responsible for reviewing Inputs from customer, engineering documents. Support and close coordination with Factory for the protection panel integration and FAT. Support the Sales & Tendering team in product selection and offer preparation. Planning of resources for the project Engineering, required software and license for engineering work related. Support the site team for the engineering related work and close project work. Share the ROE with respective teams.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible and accountable for CCS engineering deliverables including Schematic design documents, Relay Settings calculations, CT/VT calculations
• Strong knowledge of Design tools
• Responsible for following engineering process and Project deliverables in line with project plan.
• Good understanding of protection engineering principles
• Capable of providing optimum technical solutions to the Project keeping in mind the Quality, Cost and delivery performance indicators
• Ability to present technical solutions to Customer and ability to convince the customer
• Support to PMs to Control projects effectively in terms of budgeted profitability, planning, financial control and general reporting (internal / external).
• Ensure that agreements with customers regarding material / documentation lead times, delivery, reliability and quality are achieved within the budgetary constraints agreed within the Unit.
• To be responsible for the technical content of Protection control projects.
• To develop the conceptual design and lease with other members of a multidisciplinary team to ensure accuracy for the technical content of the project. Assist the Project Management department in the accurate collation of information pertaining to System tenders.
• Strong Knowledge of GEV/Siemens/ABB Protections relay and selection and Engineering work
• Ability to comprehend Customer specifications and propose optimum engineering solutions
• Ensure Quality of CCS System deliverables to Customers
• Ability to read / interpret tender / contract documentation, schematics, procedures and policy guidelines
• Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
• Knowledge of competitor products is advantageous
• Time and resource management skills
• Ability to train newly joined engineers
• Strong knowledge in protection main relays and busbar philosophy
• Strong knowledge in Conventional Control System (CCS), distributed control system (DCS) and cyber security system implementation and design activities.
• Strong knowledge about TAQA/DEWA/SEWA Specification and project experience.
• Strong knowledge in Panel integration coordination and timely input from engineering.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electronic/electrical engineering or related fields
• Minimum of 20 years of experience in Protection and control systems.
• Minimum of 15 years of working experience in Engineering field.
• Minimum of 10 years of working experience in TAQA/DEWA/ADNOC/GCCIA project Engineering field.
• Strong knowledge in Relay setting calculation and OC & EF coordination study for different UAE customers
• Strong knowledge in CTVT sizing/ adequacy check calculation for different UAE customers
• Strong knowledge of Project specification and requirement for different UAE customers
• Strong knowledge in other MENAT customer experience is added advantage.
• Strong knowledge/experience of Generator protection panel engineering for different customers
• Strong knowledge/experience of technical drawings (wiring diagram, P&ID, General Arrangement, etc…).
• Strong computer skills using MS Office Software Suite
• Fluent English

Desired Characteristics

• Knowledge of schemes and application of protection relays in electrical networks including HV & EHV systems, and state-of-the-art technologies in substation automation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel.
• Ability to read / interpret tender / contract documentation, schematics, procedures, and policy guidelines.
• Ability to define problems, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines, work under pressure, take ownership of activities.
• Experience of managing projects for SCMS systems is a distinct advantage.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
• Ability to work under pressure; Take ownership of onsite activities
