Job Overview

Based out of our Garden Grove headquarters, the Senior Powertrain Test Engineer is responsible for execution of system level Powertrain testing as part of Harbinger’s development and validation process. They will collaborate closely with fellow test engineers to execute comprehensive system-level testing, drive innovation in our test facility capabilities, and partner with stakeholders to develop robust testing methodologies. The role will have a key focus on the electrical, mechanical, and software integration of Powertrain systems and test rigs, building out robust instrumentation and data acquisition systems, and development of automated test software focusing on repeatability, efficiency, and safety.

What You’ll Do:

  • Set up, configure, and maintain test rigs and laboratory equipment to support development and validation testing of electric vehicle powertrain systems and components.
  • Integrate mechanical assemblies, electrical hardware, sensors, instrumentation, and control systems to enable reliable and repeatable testing.
  • Configure and troubleshoot data acquisition (DAQ) systems, measurement sensors, and test instrumentation to capture high-quality test data.
  • Support the execution of component- and system-level tests, including test setup, instrumentation, data collection, and post-test analysis.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, characterize system performance, investigate anomalies, and support root-cause analysis.
  • Troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems and test setups, identifying and resolving hardware, instrumentation, and integration issues.
  • Collaborate with test, mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to improve test procedures, instrumentation, and overall laboratory capabilities.
  • Document test configurations, wiring, instrumentation layouts, procedures, and results to support repeatability and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of test systems, laboratory processes, and validation methodologies, with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, and data integrity.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in test engineering, mechatronics, electro-mechanical integration, instrumentation, or hardware development.
  • Hands-on experience setting up, integrating, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical hardware in a laboratory, test facility, or product development environment.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, sensors, instrumentation, signal measurement, and test equipment.
  • Experience collecting, processing, and analyzing test data using tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work methodically through hardware and system integration challenges.
  • Comfortable working directly with physical hardware, using electrical measurement tools, and supporting the setup and execution of engineering tests.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to test repeatability, data quality, and laboratory safety.
  • A collaborative, hands-on mindset and the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines
