Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Staff Data Engineer (T5) to serve as the Lead Engineer for the Decision Support & Analytics (DS&A) portfolio in our Roy, UT Innovation Center. This role works in close partnership with the DS&A Portfolio Manager and focuses on the technical design and delivery of decision support systems and analytics products that increase the speed and accuracy of decision making for program and division leadership. This role may offer a competitive relocation package

As the DS&A Lead Engineer (T5), you will:

• Lead the technical design and implementation of decision support and analytics solutions that leverage data from Data Engineering & Intelligence (DE&I) platforms and other sources to provide high-value insights.

• Design and oversee analytics pipelines and data models that support dashboards, reports, and analytic services for executive and engineering stakeholders.

• Establish and promote standards for analytics data modeling, dashboard design, visualization patterns, and performance optimization, ensuring consistency and quality across DS&A products.

• Conduct and lead technical trade studies and design reviews for new analytics capabilities, assessing options for feasibility, scalability, usability, and maintainability.

• Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and developers working on DS&A products, guiding them in choosing appropriate tools, patterns, and techniques.

• Collaborate closely with the DE&I Lead Engineer and other portfolio leads to ensure smooth integration between data platforms and decision support/analytics layers.

• Support the DS&A Portfolio Manager in preparing technical content for briefings to DSP leadership and customers, including explaining analytic architectures, performance results, and limitations.

• Serve as a key technical resource for questions related to DS&A architectures, tools, and practices, advising teams on how to best use DS&A capabilities to solve program problems.

Typical Minimum Education or Experience:

• T05: Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 10+ years; or a PhD with 8+ years. In lieu of a formal degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience may be considered.

• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing analytics and decision support solutions that ingest complex program data and deliver actionable insights via dashboards, reports, or analytic services.

• Strong background in data integration, analytics pipelines, and applying statistical or ML/AI techniques to real-world decision support problems.

• Experience acting as a technical lead on multi-component analytics solutions, integrating data, software, and visualization.

• Ability to work under consultative direction, initiating technical tasks and selecting approaches that support long-range decision support objectives.

• Must be a US Citizen with an Active DoD Secret clearance, current and within scope, with ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret and SAP approval.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience architecting executive-level analytics experiences, including data modeling for analytics, visualization best practices, and performance tuning.

• Familiarity with modern analytics and AI, and with integrating them into larger data/platform ecosystems.

• Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate analytic designs, assumptions, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience mentoring other engineers in analytics engineering, AI, and complex software systems engineering.

• Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance Special Access Program (SAP) access.
