LEAD R&D ENGINEER, EMBEDDED CONTROL SYSTEM - CENTRE FOR ENVIRON SUSTAINABILITY

[What the role is]

This is a 2-year contract position as a Lead R&D Engineer in the Centre for Environmental Sustainability.

We are seeking a forward-thinking professional to lead intelligent embedded system controller design and system integration for energy efficient solution. This role combines technical leadership with business development and emphasizes innovation in smart controller design and development in both industrial or commercial application, diagnostic maintenance using sensor outputs, and integration with control optimization.

[What you will be working on]

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Secure and lead consultancy projects end to end, from scoping to delivery.

• Develop targeted industry partnerships to bring in consultancy engagements aligned with process control and diagnostics.

• Develop novel solutions to address industry problem statements in the area of energy and process efficiency.

• Provide electrical and electronic design expertise for control systems at a component, subassembly, and system level.

• Embedded software and UI programming, including PLC, C++ and C#.

• Collaborate on the technical integration across a wide range of disciplines according to project requirements.

• Conduct training either as a formal short course or as part of the consultancy work.

• Mentor and inspire students, cultivating talent in applied research and sustainable technology development.

[What we are looking for]

We are looking for an embedded software engineering expert in the area of embedded control system with a passion for developing solutions for industry.

Applicants are expected to be highly motivated and versatile individuals with the following attributes and qualifications:

• At least M.Eng qualifications in Mechatronic/Electrical/Electronic engineering with at least 10 years of industrial experience.

• Good knowledge of programming language for control and embedded system like PLC ladder programming, function block programming, C++, C# and python.

• Prior experience in sensor and actuator integration, including common industrial protocol like Modbus and Bacnet.

• Prior experience working in electrical design, fabrication and testing and commissioning,

• Understanding in building facilities, BMS, energy management and HVAC system would be preferred.

• Experience in AI integration and deployment would be advantage.  

• Ability to coordinate and communicate within the team (staff, student interns, and industry collaborator) with good interpersonal skills.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, including critical and analytical thinking.
