Introduction

The Financial Manager is responsible for overseeing the full finance function within the Halls Financial Services business. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent will partner closely with business leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong financial control, and effective decision-making. The role requires a commercially minded finance leader who can provide insights, manage financial risk, and support the strategic objectives of the business while maintaining compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Preparation and ownership of monthly management accounts,including detailed variance analysis and commentary
  • Delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to support decision-making
  • Development and tracking of key financial and operational performance metrics
  • Oversight of the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial integrity of records
  • Identification of financial trends, risks, and opportunities, with proactive recommendations to management
  • Continuous improvement and automation of financial processes and reportingBudgeting, Forecasting & Planning
  • Ownership of the annual budgeting process across the business
  • Preparation and maintenance of rolling forecasts and scenario analysis
  • Development of financial models to support strategic initiatives and business cases
  • Partnering with business leaders to ensure alignment between financial plans and operational strategy
  • Monitoring performance against budget and providing actionable insights Cashflow, Treasury & Working Capital
  • Management of cashflow forecasting and liquidity planning
  • Optimisation of working capital, including debtors, creditors, and cash cycles
  • Oversight of banking relationships, facilities, and funding requirements
  • Monitoring and management of financial risk exposures
  • Approval and oversight of payments in line with governance frameworks
  • Tax & Statutory Compliance
  • Oversight of all tax submissions, including VAT, income tax, and payroll- related filings
  • Ensuring full compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Liaison with tax advisors and support for tax planning initiatives
  • Monitoring of regulatory changes and assessment of financial impact on the business

Audit & Internal Controls

  • Ownership of the external audit process, including planning, execution, and resolution of audit findings
  • Preparation of audit and risk committee reporting packs
  • Maintenance and enhancement of a robust internal control environment
  • Oversight of financial governance processes and policies
  • Ensuring audit readiness and accuracy of financial records at all times Insurance & Risk Management
  • Financial oversight of the insurance portfolio, including profitability, performance, and risk trends
  • Collaboration with underwriting and operational teams to assess financial implications of business decisions
  • Participation in risk reviews and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements
  • Monitoring claims, premiums, and key insurance performance drivers

  • Building a high-performing, accountable, and commercially focused finance function

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • CA(SA) Qualification
  • BCom Accounting
  • CIMA Registration (advantageous)
  • Matric
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience (including post-articles experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing accountants
  • Experience in financial services or insurance advantageous
  • Strong financial modelling, budgeting and forecasting skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and business partnering capability
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems capability
  • Working experience with Sage, IDU, Quick consol advantageous
