Job Description
To provide subject matter expertise and experience, assist and guide valuations team members to resolve valuation discrepancies arising from systems, models and inputs. To provide independent valuations, across a wide array of complex assets, either for profit and loss, or to inform business decisions. To drive team enhancements, through strengthening the control fabric, operational efficiencies and the delivery of daily operations.Are you someone who can:
- Investigate and resolve valuation discrepancies arising from systems, models and inputs.
- Check the validity, consistency, accuracy and reliability of valuations, based on the models, data sources and data used.
- Produce independent valuations across a wide array of complex assets, either for profit and loss or to inform business decisions.
- Determine reserves where models or inputs are deficient, and review and enhance the underlying reserving methodologies.
- Maintain and develop the team’s Python tools and architecture for reserve and valuation adjustment quantification and proactive controls checking, and drive the IT transformation for the team in partnership with management and technology.
- Ensure valuation-relevant compliance with statutory, legislative, policy and governance requirements in the area of accountability.
- Engage with committees, forums and key stakeholders in the provision of subject matter expertise and opinion, and support the CFO or CRO on technical valuations issues.
- Guide and mentor junior team members, delegating work and reviewing the quality of completed tasks.
You Will Be An Ideal Candidate If You Have:
- An Honours degree or postgraduate qualification in mathematical finance, financial engineering or a related quantitative field.
- A minimum of 4 to 5 years’ experience in a Corporate and Investment Banking environment, with meaningful exposure to valuations, product control, market risk or a quantitative function.
- A broad-based and in-depth understanding of the asset classes traded in Global Markets, including derivative products and the models used to value them.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and the resilience to work on unstructured problems, independently and as part of a team.
- Practical experience with Python, with exposure to Murex or PowerBI as an advantage.
