Child and Adolescent Group Services (CAGS) Intern

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required. May be enrolled as a first or second year student in a Master’s program in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage & Family Therapy.
2. Licensure: SWT, CT or LSW required.
3. Skills/Competencies:

• Core Expertise: Demonstrate strong clinical skills including training and/or classroom experience expertise in therapy, crisis intervention, education, behavioral interventions, and substance abuse therapy.

• Cultural Competency: Demonstrate awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics.

• Professional & Ethical Conduct: Adhere to professional values such as honesty, personal responsibility, and accountability; apply ethical concepts within scope of work and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.

• Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate competence in utilizing Agency computer systems and software as required to perform intern duties.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the administrative/clinical supervision of the Director /Field Instructor, the CAGS Intern will provide clinical care, safety, and training to clients in a community based partial hospitalization setting. Alongside our multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and specialists, the CAGS Intern works to develop, implement and manage specialized treatment plans for our clients year-round.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Responsible for documentation including, but not limited to:
   1. Develop and update treatment plans for designated clients in collaboration with licensed staff. (Second year/advanced standing only)
   2. Responsible for daily/progress notes for therapeutic service hours delivered, as shared with other staff within the groups.
   3. Complete appropriate summary report when a client ends participation in CAGS (discharge, transfer or closing summary) in collaboration with licensed staff. (Second year/advanced standing only)
   4. Complete assessments (psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, mental status exam, CSSRS, diagnosis, etc.) on an as needed basis for new clients. (Second year/advanced standing only)
   5. Assist in ensuring client outcome tools and screeners are completed at appropriate frequency as outlined in the treatment plan or whenever clinical indicated.
   6. Report all incidents and documents the same day to the CAGS Clinical Supervisor.
2. Provide direct care and service to groups of clients.
3. Facilitate therapeutic behavioral services within treatment plan meetings and progress updates with guardians and other treatment providers.
4. Administer appropriate therapeutic group clinical services to youth within various clinical topics as directed via curriculum based on individual client treatment needs.
5. Responsible for group/team leading and co-planning of therapeutic groups and individual clients involved in CAGS.
6. Supervise client activities and is accountable for whereabouts and safety of clients during CAGS time.
7. Protect clients from physical and emotional harm toward themselves, others, or the environment including use of the Therapeutic Crisis Model of Intervention, utilizing physical restraints if necessary for safety.
8. Assist in crisis intervention, problem resolution and process discussions with clients on an assigned and an as needed basis.
9. Responsible for the co-planning of groups being lead. 
10. Responsible for following the planned curriculum and documenting when there are changes from the clinical planning for clients.
11. Participate cooperatively and flexibly in occasional client transportation to and from the CAGS program.
12. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
13. Attendance to staffing needs, as necessary for youth and family.
14. Provide other services necessary to the enrichment of the internship environment.
