Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Sales Tax Accountant prepares and files sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions and maintains general ledger reconciliations. Sitting between Associate and Senior levels, this role serves as the main contact for retail stores and tire centers on exemption certificates and invoice inquiries. The position also assists with tax regulation research, system testing, and operational tax guidance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

35% - Prepare, build tax reports for, and file routine to moderately complex sales and use tax returns for assigned tax jurisdictions. Ensure timely payment of taxes due
25% - Review system-generated sales reports to ensure accurate tax collection. Perform monthly reconciliations of sales tax general ledger accounts and identify use tax reporting adjustments.
20% - Collect, verify, archive, and audit sales tax exemption certificates for compliance. Follow up directly with stores to correct documentation errors and improve store-level compliance.
10% - Provide direct assistance to tire center personnel regarding exemptions, invoice corrections, and routine sales/use tax inquiries. Assist in conducting sales and use tax training sessions for tire center and HQ personnel.
10% - Support tax audits conducted by various taxing jurisdictions, maintain tax related training documents & perform tax research.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED
Educational/Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years experience in Tax, Accounting, Finance, or related field
Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Required Technical Skills/Knowledge:
Advanced PC skills including Excel, and Google Suite
Other desirable system knowledge includes NetSuite, Customer First, OneSource, Vertex, or working knowledge of similar tax determination engines, general ledger and ERP systems
General Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally (both verbally and in writing) while ensuring that the quality and content of the message are relevant to the circumstances; ability to be an active-listener; the ability to draft, proofread, and send written communications effectively; the ability and willingness to carefully listen to others by asking appropriate questions and avoiding interruptions

Physical Requirements:
Desk-based role; mainly sitting with occasional standing and walking. Requires frequent, repetitive computer and office equipment use, including reaching. Lifting capped at 10 lbs. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must communicate verbally in person and by phone.
Work Environment:
Office, non-manual work; the worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
