Cement Terminal Operator

Description

Purpose / General Description:

Cement Terminal Operator is responsible for performing all material handling duties on railcars and tankers, performing housekeeping and maintenance on the equipment and facilities, performing work in compliance with all safety and environmental requirements, and working to ensure customers (and suppliers) are satisfied with the product and service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Understand and adhere to all expectations for performance: Know all policies, procedures, regulations, and production output requirements of the facility. Be available to work a variety of shifts and schedules, perform daily activities (start-up, during the shift, shutdown)
• Maintain safety awareness: Wear all PPE consistently, perform tasks in a safe manner and ensure others always work safely, bring awareness to issues and near-miss as discovered in all areas of the operation. Take immediate action to prevent and clean up spills.
• Safely operate and maintain equipment and facilities: Forklift, Trackmobile, Loader, and Sweeper (certification on various equipment is a job requirement), tanker loading equipment, railcar unloading equipment, material conveyance equipment, dust control equipment, and facilities infrastructure. Schedule railcars with the trainmaster, communicate any operational issues. Ensure compliance to 5S systems in all work areas and maintain Kanban levels in storage areas.
• Complete all documentation: Complete documents and reports accurately and timely. Be able to use SAP to log railcars, record inventory, release railcars and communicate effectively with Argos/Summit. Resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Be an effective team member: Set a positive example, fulfill all responsibilities on time, resolve customer issues in a positive manner, fill-in on other duties as assigned, keep commitments to others, communicate effectively with customers and suppliers, and build teamwork in the group.
• Other duties as assigned and full compliance with all company policies and procedures as described in the Company handbook.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• Able to communicate in English.
• Valid NC Driver License with clean record and ability to pass a criminal background 
• Able to operate various automated equipment, adjust and perform maintenance.
• Work independently and diligently with minimal directions.
• Communicate well with team members and supervisors.
• Apply troubleshooting skills to solve problems and contribute to the success of the team.

Physical Requirements:

• Strong safety record and strong work ethic
• This role is hands-on and active. Employees must be able to:
• Lift up to 75 lbs.
• Climb ladders and access all rail equipment
• Sit, stand, and remain active for extended periods
• Bend, twist, reach, kneel, and crouch as needed
• Use hands and arms for operational and equipment handling
• Maintain awareness of surroundings, including sounds, movement, and visual details
