Qualcomm Technologies' Integrated Platform Solutions (IPS) team in San Diego is seeking a versatile Support Engineer / Technician to collaborate with hardware engineering teams in the development, validation, and deployment of chip test platforms.

In this role, you will support prototype hardware bring-up, debug, distribution, and new silicon validation activities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting platform hardware and ASIC-related issues using test scripts and industry-standard lab equipment, collecting and analyzing test data, and preparing technical reports to support engineering decision-making.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player with strong hardware debugging skills and the ability to interpret schematics and technical documentation. A solid understanding of power distribution networks (PDNs), signal integrity, impedance matching, and high-speed digital and RF measurement techniques is essential. Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, logic analyzers, and other electronic test equipment is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ year of Support Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Associate's degree and 2+ years of Support Engineering or related work experience.

OR

High School Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of Support Engineering or related work experience.

*Completed advanced degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one year (Master’s = one year) of work experience.

Key Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, debug, and validation of prototype platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and ASIC issues using automated test scripts and lab instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of power delivery, signal integrity, and high-speed interface design principles.
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience measuring and analyzing high-speed digital and RF signals.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to the successful development of next-generation Qualcomm technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; or equivalent military training and hands-on technical experience.
  • Proficiency with common hardware laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal analyzers, JTAG debuggers, FPGA programming tools, and related instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and debug in a laboratory environment.
  • Strong soldering and rework skills, including the ability to work with fine-pitch SMT components down to 01005 package sizes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings and present technical results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to hardware debugging and issue resolution.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional engineering teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in an R&D laboratory environment performing component-level hardware debug, root cause analysis, and validation of complex electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot RF, analog, and digital baseband circuits using schematics, simulation results, and laboratory test equipment.
  • Strong understanding of cellular, wireless, and compute platform technologies, including key performance metrics and measurement techniques such as receiver sensitivity, transmit power, ACLR, EVM, signal integrity, jitter, power integrity, and IR drop.
  • Experience characterizing and debugging high-speed digital interfaces and RF subsystems through lab-based measurements and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and system-level performance optimization in complex hardware platforms.
  • Experience with digital and/or RF circuit design, including schematic review, component selection, and design validation.
  • Familiarity with silicon bring-up, hardware validation, and characterization activities for prototype and pre-production systems.
