Physician - Medical Director of Wound Care - Southeast Michigan

Corewell Health East is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible physician with expertise in wound care and demonstrated leadership experience to serve as Medical Director of Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine within the Heart & Vascular Service Line. This position provides medical leadership and clinical oversight for inpatient and outpatient wound care and hyperbaric medicine services. The Medical Director will be responsible for the strategic development, clinical quality, operational alignment, and program growth of wound care and hyperbaric medicine services while maintaining an active clinical practice. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, administrative leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to advance patient care, quality outcomes, and service line performance

Candidates from a range of surgical and wound care backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine with wound care training, or another appropriate surgical specialty with significant wound care expertise. Formal training and experience in wound care are required, with additional certification or experience in Hyperbaric Medicine highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate substantial clinical experience, leadership capabilities, and competency in the management of complex wound care patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Position Highlights 

• Medical leadership of inpatient and outpatient wound care at Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe campuses, and hyperbaric medicine programs at Royal Oak.

• Active clinical practice caring for patients with acute and chronic wounds, complex wound conditions, limb preservation needs, and hyperbaric medicine indications.

• Oversight of clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and physician practice standards.

• Collaboration with physicians, APPs, nursing, rehabilitation, infectious disease, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, podiatry, and other multidisciplinary teams.

• Development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols, policies, and best practices for wound care and hyperbaric medicine. 

• Oversight of physician workflows, documentation practices, coding accuracy, quality metrics, and operational performance. 

• Partnership with administrative leadership to improve patient access, financial performance, clinical outcomes, and patient experience. 

• Support of physician recruitment, onboarding, privileging, and professional practice evaluations (OPPE/FPPE). 

• Strategic planning and program development for wound care and hyperbaric medicine services across multiple sites. 

• Participation in quality improvement initiatives, safety programs, accreditation activities, and regulatory compliance efforts. 

• Oversight and support of hyperbaric medicine services, including safety standards and adherence to Joint Commission, NFPA, and UHMS requirements. 

• Opportunities to educate physicians, APPs, residents, medical students, nursing staff, and other clinical team members. 

• Participation in research, education, community outreach, and program growth initiatives.

Required  

• MD or DO degree  

• Board certified or board eligible in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Emergency Medicine with wound care training or another appropriate surgical specialty 

• Eligibility for an unrestricted Michigan medical license  

• Eligibility for an unrestricted DEA registration  

 

Preferred  

• Certification or additional training in Wound Care and/or Hyperbaric Medicine. 

• Experience directing or leading a wound care or hyperbaric medicine program. 

• Experience with physician quality initiatives, performance improvement programs, and operational management. 

• Experience with hyperbaric oxygen therapy operations and safety oversight. 

• Participation in wound care research, education, clinical pathway development, or professional societies such as the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA), Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), or similar organizations.
