Vaccuum Truck Helper/Laborer - Stormwater Operations

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Laborer in the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for assisting the operator of the vac-con truck in the day-to-day cleaning of the Stormwater catch basins, pipes, and culverts within the street rights-of-way.

What you’ll be doing:

• Performing manual labor in support of public works projects
• Following established safety procedures and utilizing safety equipment
• Operating a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects
• Assisting in streets and sidewalk projects, as well as stormwater drainage system construction and maintenance
• Assisting during emergency weather events and other activities, as assigned
• Processing documentation associated with department/division operations
• Performing other related duties as required

About you: 

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

• High school diploma or GED required
• One year of work experience in maintenance, construction, or building trades
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license
• Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
