Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services.

Our purpose is to: Build Australia’s future economy. IB&M also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing global markets, trade finance, corporate and institutional lending to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business and retail customers.

 

Global Institutional Banking Coverage, or Coverage, within IB&M leads banking relationship management and the provision of risk management and capital solutions to our clients. The team’s purpose is to provide IB&M clients with solutions across the financing spectrum to support their strategic objectives.

We are focused on building deep relationships with large private and public sector organisations, providing clients with bespoke solutions across the financing spectrum to support their strategic objectives and complex needs globally.

We have teams across 16 cities worldwide in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, China, Japan and Singapore.

·       Specialised Industries: This team manages our relationships with clients across Real Estate; Infrastructure & Utilities; Living; Aviation (Offshore) and Digital Infrastructure

·       Diversified Industries: This team manages our relationships with clients across Agriculture; Food & Beverage; Retail & Consumer; Health; Contractors; Industrials, Logistics & Defence; Telco, Media, Technology

·       Financial and Strategic Investors: This team manages our relationships with clients across Sponsors, Insurance and Super Funds

·       Financial Institutions and Government: This team manages our relationships with clients across Government; Higher Education; Banks; Diversified Fis; Offshore Public Sectors and ADIs

·       Energy, Commodities and Sustainability: This team manages our relationships with clients across Renewable Energy; Other Generation; Mining, Oil & Gas and Commodities

·       Chief Operating Office: This team drives operational excellence by optimising processes, managing risk and governance and delivering data-driven insights to support client engagement

 

Picture yourself in the team:

You will contribute to achieving the Coverage’s core purpose by being a true team player. This entails a comprehensive understanding of the bank’s offering to the market across the franchise and ensuring client obsession, best client experience to deliver. Understanding how best to portray the bank into the market, to work within the ecosystem strategy and deliver in line with defined objectives.

This role will report into the Executive Director FSI and will be a member of the Global Institutional Banking Coverage division within Institutional Banking and Markets.

 

Do work that matters:

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Lead and originate senior-level client engagement across the Insurance sector, leveraging significant Insurance industry experience and a strong understanding of global insurers, including Life, Property & Casualty/General Insurance and Reinsurance.
• Build and grow CBA’s international Insurance coverage franchise, partnering closely with our Australian Insurance coverage team to deepen existing relationships and originate new-to-bank opportunities.
• Develop and own strategic relationships with C-suite, Treasury and other senior client stakeholders, identifying opportunities across CBA’s broader product suite and developing effective client plans to capture available wallet.
• Originate, structure and execute complex financing, credit and hedging solutions for global insurers, applying strong commercial judgement, financial and scenario analysis, and an understanding of clients’ financing, liquidity, investment and risk-management needs.
• Apply deep knowledge of Insurance regulatory, capital and liquidity frameworks, particularly across the UK and Europe, to identify their implications for client strategy and transaction structuring; exposure to North American Insurance markets would be advantageous.
• Lead transactions through the full deal lifecycle, including structuring and negotiation, credit assessment and approval, documentation, KYC, execution and ongoing portfolio and covenant management.
• Coordinate cross-functional deal teams across Product, Risk, Legal, Finance and Coverage, ensuring stakeholders are effectively engaged and transactions deliver appropriate outcomes for both clients and CBA.
• Provide market and sector thought leadership, contribute to the development of innovative client solutions, and provide leadership to the broader team while maintaining strong standards of risk management, compliance and conduct.

 

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

• At least 5-7 years experience within the Insurance sector, with strong technical knowledge of the global Insurance industry, its key participants, market dynamics and the factors shaping the sector.
• An established senior-level network across the European Insurance market, with demonstrable relationships across insurers, reinsurers and relevant industry participants; North American relationships would be advantageous but are not essential.
• A strong track record of building credibility and trusted relationships at C-suite level, anticipating client needs and translating these into relevant commercial opportunities.
• Broad knowledge of institutional banking products and solutions, including corporate finance, debt capital markets, global markets and risk management, with exposure to cash management and payments advantageous.
• Strong financial, credit and risk analysis capabilities, including financial modelling, together with the commercial judgement to form and confidently articulate independent views.
• Experience navigating complex transactions, legal documentation, regulatory and governance frameworks, with a sound understanding of risk management and KYC requirements.
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and influence senior internal and external stakeholders.
• A proactive, client-focused and commercially minded approach, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.

• At least a Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (Business, Finance, etc). Industry body representation is desirable.
