Description

Description

Make smart lending decisions that make a real difference.

At Neighbors Credit Union, lending is about more than reviewing numbers—it is about understanding the person behind the application and finding responsible ways to help our members move forward. We are looking for a confident and thoughtful Credit Analyst to review and underwrite consumer and home equity loan applications. In this role, you will use financial analysis, lending guidelines, and sound judgment to make lending decisions that balance member needs with responsible risk management. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, making informed decisions, and collaborating with others to create positive lending experiences.

What You’ll Do

As a Credit Analyst, you will:

  • Review and underwrite consumer and home equity loan applications by analyzing credit history, income, debt, collateral, and other financial information.
  • Approve, decline, or recommend lending decisions within your assigned lending authority.
  • Look beyond the credit score by evaluating the full financial picture, including compensating factors and the member’s individual circumstances.
  • Work through complex lending situations using underwriting guidelines, policy interpretation, and sound judgment.
  • Recommend lending solutions that support members’ financial needs while protecting the credit union from unnecessary risk.
  • Partner with Loan Production, Branch Operations, Member Service, and Loan Servicing to gather information, resolve application questions, and communicate lending decisions.
  • Clearly explain lending decisions and identify what additional information may be needed to move an application forward.
  • Ensure lending decisions comply with credit union policies, underwriting guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Stay current on consumer lending products, underwriting practices, regulations, and lending systems.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for employees who have questions about lending requirements or underwriting decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting consistency, turnaround times, processes, and the overall lending experience.
  • Participate in quality reviews, employee training, and departmental projects.

Requirements

 What Will Help You Succeed

You may be a great fit for this position if you:

  • Enjoy making decisions and can confidently explain the reasoning behind them.
  • Can balance member service with responsible risk management.
  • Look at the full lending situation instead of relying on a single number or factor. Are comfortable reviewing detailed financial and credit information.
  • Know when a situation fits established guidelines and when it requires additional review.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, especially when a lending decision is complex or sensitive. Work well with employees across different departments.
  • Can manage multiple applications and priorities without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Are curious, solutions-focused, and willing to recommend process improvements.

 Experience and Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in consumer lending, credit analysis, underwriting, loan processing, or a related financial-services role.
  • Experience reviewing consumer credit reports and financial documentation.
  •  Knowledge of consumer lending practices, underwriting principles, and credit risk.
  •  Home equity lending experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with applicable consumer lending regulations is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain any required lending registrations or certifications.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

You will bring a combination of analytical thinking and people-focused decision-making. You understand that strong underwriting is not about automatically saying “yes” or “no.” It is about asking the right questions, recognizing reasonable lending opportunities, and reaching decisions that are fair, consistent, and responsible.
