Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Human Resources Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Labor Relations Manager. 

The primary responsibility of this role is to serve as the strategic HR and labor relations partner for six unionized production facilities. This role leads a team of three Team Member Relations Analysts and is responsible for developing and executing labor relations strategies that support business objectives, maintain constructive union relationships, ensure consistent contract administration, and foster a productive and engaged workforce.

Reporting to the General Manager, HR Business Partner, the person in this role will partner closely with site leadership, operations, union representatives, and HR stakeholders to navigate complex labor issues, resolve workplace concerns, minimize organizational risk, and strengthen team member relations. This position provides leadership in collective bargaining agreement administration, grievance management, labor strategy, workforce engagement, and employee relations while ensuring compliance with applicable labor and employment laws.

This position is based in Plano, Texas.  The selected candidate will be expected to reside within commutable distance of this location.

What you’ll be doing

Labor Relations Strategy & Union Relations

  • Serve as the primary labor relations advisor to plant and site leadership across six unionized facilities.

  • Develop and execute labor relations strategies that align workforce practices with operational and business objectives.

  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with union leadership and bargaining unit representatives.

  • Provide guidance on collective bargaining agreement interpretation, application, and consistent contract administration.

  • Support collective bargaining activities, contract negotiations, and implementation of negotiated agreements.

  • Support labor management committee meetings, joint labor management forums, and other union management discussions.

  • Assess labor climate trends and proactively identify opportunities to improve labor relations outcomes.

  • Partner with business leaders to prepare for and respond to labor related issues, disputes, and workplace concerns.

Team Member Relations & Employee Relations

  • Lead complex employee and labor relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely resolution.

  • Provide consultation to leaders regarding performance management, corrective action, workplace conduct, attendance, and policy interpretation.

  • Manage investigations involving workplace concerns, policy violations, potential policy-based actions, and labor or employment law implications.

  • Coach leaders on effective conflict resolution and employee engagement practices.

  • Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, current practices, and contractual obligations across locations.

Grievance Administration & Contract Compliance

  • Oversee grievance management processes from intake through resolution, including systematic tracking and trend analysis.

  • Provide strategic guidance on grievance response development, settlement discussions, and arbitration preparation.

  • Monitor grievance trends and identify systemic issues requiring operational or leadership intervention.

  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and established labor relations practices.

  • Partner with site leaders to develop corrective actions and sustainable solutions to recurring issues.

Leadership Consultation & Business Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to site leadership teams on workforce, labor, and organizational effectiveness matters.

  • Support leaders in balancing team member experience, labor obligations, and business performance objectives.

  • Provide recommendations on workforce strategies that improve productivity, engagement, retention, attendance, and operational stability.

  • Influence organizational decisions through labor relations expertise, workforce analytics, and risk assessment.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of three Team Member Relations Analysts supporting employee and labor relations activities across multiple sites.

  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, and ensure consistent service delivery across locations.

  • Develop team capability in investigations, contract administration, grievance management, leave administration, engagement support, and employee relations.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, confidentiality, and customer focused support.

Workforce Engagement & Data Analytics

  • Monitor workforce engagement, labor relations, and employee relations metrics to identify trends and recommend solutions.

  • Oversee engagement survey administration, action planning, and follow up activities.

  • Analyze turnover, attendance, grievances, corrective actions, policy-based actions, and other workforce indicators to support business decision making.

  • Partner with operational leaders to address root causes and improve the team member experience.

  • Utilize workforce data and key performance indicators to measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

Leave, Accommodation, & Compliance Oversight

  • Provide oversight and guidance regarding leave administration, disability accommodation, modified duty, and return to work processes.

  • Ensure compliance with FMLA, ADA, state leave programs, occupational injury processes, workers compensation, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with analysts and site leadership to manage complex leave, intermittent leave, accommodation, and modified duty cases.

  • Mitigate organizational risk through proactive consultation, documentation, and compliance monitoring.

HR Systems & Administrative Governance

  • Ensure effective administration of grievance tracking systems, case documentation, personnel records, and labor relations reporting.

  • Oversee accurate system entry and monitoring of policy-based actions, grievance files, and related documentation within HR case management tools.

  • Ensure documentation repositories, including Alfresco or other designated systems, are regularly updated and maintained.

  • Support governance and compliance related to hiring, wage setting, employee relations, and labor relations processes.

  • Drive process standardization, training, and continuous improvement initiatives across supported locations.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, or closely related field, or equivalent professional work experience relevant to this position.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Team Member Relations, or Labor Relations.

  • 3+ years of experience supporting unionized environments.

  • Experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements.

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolving complex employee relations matters.

  • Experience leading and developing HR, labor relations, or employee relations professionals.

  • Strong knowledge of labor and employment laws and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and drive business outcomes in a manufacturing, logistics, distribution, production, or similar operational environment.

  • Ability and willingness to travel 30% of the time.
