Job Description

We set and achieve bold ambitions in our fight against the world’s most devastating diseases, united in our commitment to confronting the largest public health challenges of our day and improving the lives of patients for generations to come. As the Director, Enterprise AI Communications at Gilead, you will own Gilead's internal AI communications narrative, helping employees, leaders and key stakeholders understand what AI means for the company, how it connects across workstreams and how it supports our mission, employee experience and impact for patients.

Reporting into the Corporate & Enterprise Communications team, this role will serve as the communications lead for Gilead's broader AI ecosystem, including Responsible AI, enterprise governance, AI literacy and adoption, priority use cases, executive visibility, employee engagement, cross-functional storytelling and the internal joint council that connects AI work across the enterprise.

The Director will partner closely with Information Technology, Human Resources, Development, Legal, Compliance and other enterprise functions to translate complex concepts into clear, meaningful and people-centered communications that build trust, understanding and engagement. The role will also serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior technology leaders and support broader enterprise technology communications priorities.

We are open to this position sitting at our Foster City or Parsippany campus. Foster City is strongly preferred.

Enterprise AI Strategy & Narrative

  • Develop and execute an enterprise communications strategy that supports Gilead's AI vision, priorities and long-term roadmap.

  • Create compelling narratives that connect AI capabilities to business outcomes, employee experience, responsible use and patient impact.

  • Own and maintain a consistent internal AI narrative and messaging platform across workstreams, audiences, channels, leadership teams and the internal joint council.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible and engaging communications for non-technical audiences.

  • Monitor AI developments across the healthcare, biopharma and technology landscape to inform Gilead's internal narrative, leadership messaging and employee communications.

Executive Communications & Thought Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders across IT and enterprise functions.

  • Develop executive presentations, speeches, talking points, leadership messaging and thought leadership content.

  • Support AI-related communications for leadership forums, enterprise meetings, Board discussions and other high-visibility business moments.

  • Partner with executives to strengthen internal and external visibility around AI innovation and responsible use.

Employee Engagement & Adoption

  • Lead enterprise engagement strategies that build employee awareness, understanding and confidence in AI.

  • Design communications campaigns that promote AI literacy, adoption and responsible use.

  • Showcase priority use cases, success stories and measurable impact across functions and geographies.

  • Partner with HR, IT and functional leaders to support learning, change management and employee engagement initiatives.

Responsible AI & Governance Communications

  • Develop communications supporting Responsible AI principles, governance frameworks and enterprise policies.

  • Ensure clear, transparent and consistent communication around AI risk management, compliance, oversight and employee expectations.

  • Support strategic change communications related to emerging AI capabilities, governance structures and enterprise initiatives.

  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk Management and other stakeholders to ensure messaging is accurate, aligned and responsible.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Technology Communications

  • Lead communications planning and execution for AI initiatives spanning multiple functions and teams.

  • Build strong partnerships across IT, HR, Development, Legal, Compliance, Public Affairs and Corporate Communications.

  • Align stakeholders around integrated communication plans, priorities, milestones and enterprise narratives.

  • Support broader enterprise technology, digital and transformation communications initiatives as needed.

  • Manage agency and vendor relationships as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and minimum 12+ years of experience required OR

  • Masters degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and minimum 1+ years of experience required OR

  • PhD in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and minimum 8+ years of experience required

  • Relevant experience can be defined as years of healthcare public relations experience

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for public relations programming within the Public Affairs group, in particular supporting the company’s growing portfolio of products and pipeline programs

  • Effectively manages all aspects of public relations agency relationships, such as providing direction and project management

  • May manage department staff, as appropriate

  • Manages budgets to target

  • Collaborates and regularly participates as a member of cross-functional teams, representing external communications function; provides public relations recommendations to help achieve company goals

  • Develops and implements media relations strategies for specific areas of responsibility, such as product and/or corporate related initiatives

  • Serves as media spokesperson for product and/or corporate news; responds to media requests and arranges interviews with management and opinion leader spokespeople as appropriate

  • Examines complex issues from a broader organization perspective, determines communications opportunities and helps determine priorities within the Public Affairs group

  • Prepares press releases, presentations and other communications materials with minimal oversight

The salary range for this position is:

Bay Area: $210,375.00 - $272,250.00.


 

Other US Locations: $191,250.00 - $247,500.00.


Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
