Job Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor has overall responsibility for laboratory support functions including areas like Customer Service Call Center, Pathology Support and Support Administration. The supervisor provides support for the staff of the individual laboratory support operations, in collaboration with the managers, plans, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the operation of the laboratories..
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the activities of one or more laboratories and/or functions to effect unity of operation within all VIPMS laboratories. • In coordination with assigned management staff create and update area specific policy and procedures. • Conducts annual review of all lab policy and procedures with Administrative Officer. • Assists Health Record Systems manager to maintain interfaces with health record systems and outside lab vendors and equipment. • Work with Health Record Systems Manager to ensure that all needed lab attributes are being entered into the health record. • Conducts monthly audits of laboratories to ensure that all regulations are being met. • Ensures standardization lab equipment, procedures and supplies. • Modifies operations as necessary to prevent recurrence of same problem • Oversee compliance with CLIA regulations. • Manage CLIA and other site inspections for all VIPMS laboratories. • Ensure that routine CAP testing is performed appropriately, review results with assigned lab employee at each location; ensure that each lab has CAP ordered in compliance with industry standards. • Coordinate OSHA compliance in coordination with the Administrative Officer and assigned laboratory staff for all VIPMS locations. • Conduct bi-annual OSHA inspections, in conjunction with the office manager, to ensure overall clinic compliance to standards. • Analyzes and evaluates currently performed lab tests to identify areas where adjustments/improvements are needed. • Support development and training opportunities for laboratory staff. Act as resource for novice staff members as well as assisting experienced staff in problem-solving for complex situations. Collaborate with management team as necessary. • Build, maintain and support a culture that fosters effective working relationships and teambuilding. • Exemplifies Credo behaviors to build relationships and manage conflict within scope of responsibility • Learns and applies new technical skills and systems as technology changes. • Remain up to date with lab charting procedures in electronic health record. • Collaborate with Health Record Systems Manager to ensure all CLIA and OSHA requirements are built into the electronic health record. • Follows computer downtime procedures for lab charting. • Assumes responsibility for continuous learning through continuing education, publications, workshops, or advanced academic education.
