Description
The Defense Solutions Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Security Systems Technician to support the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) program at U.S. Army and Department of Defense installations across CONUS and OCONUS locations.
The AIE program provides cutting-edge biometric authentication, multi-database credentialing verification, and integrated access control capabilities to over 100 military installations, with rapid expansion planned across Army, Navy, and Joint Force locations. As a Security Systems Technician, you will be at the forefront of deploying and sustaining advanced physical security systems including facial recognition, biometric scanning, automated vehicle barriers, and networked access control infrastructure in dynamic operational environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install and integrate AIE system components at military installation Access Control Points (ACPs), including facial recognition hardware, biometric scanners, IP cameras, handheld credential readers, gate automation systems, and turnstiles.
- Configure and test access control workstations, guard booth equipment, visitor management kiosks, and cloud-connected security infrastructure to ensure seamless integration with Army credentialing databases (ie. DEERS, NLETS, ABIS).
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on fielded AIE systems, diagnosing and resolving hardware failures, network connectivity issues, software configuration problems, and environmental factors affecting system performance.
- Assist Site Project Manager (SPM) to conduct site surveys and technical assessments to determine installation requirements, assess existing infrastructure compatibility, and provide recommendations for ACP modernization and expansion.
- Execute rapid response field service to address system outages, equipment failures, and mission-critical issues affecting installation access control operations, minimizing downtime and ensuring force protection readiness.
- Document system configurations, modifications, and maintenance activities in accordance with program Technical Data Package (TDP) requirements and Leidos quality standards.
- Support new site activations and technology upgrades, including facial recognition lane installations, server hardware refresh, biometric integration, and cloud migration activities.
- Provide technical support to Tier I Help Desk for escalated issues requiring hands-on intervention, hardware replacement, or on-site diagnostics.
- Travel extensively (up to 75%) to military installations across CONUS and OCONUS (including PACOM region) to support surveys, installation, and maintenance activities.
Basic Qualifications
- Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of hands-on experience supporting technical US defense programs OR Associate's Degree in Electronics, Information Technology, or related technical field with 2+ years relevant experience.
- U.S. Citizenship: Required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance and access military installations
- Physical Security Systems Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience with Physical Access Control Systems (PACS) or enterprise access control platforms, IP-based camera systems or other video surveillance, biometric authentication or identity verification systems, or electronic security hardware
- Network & IT Proficiency: Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Windows operating systems, client-server architectures, and ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues affecting security hardware.
- Technical Aptitude: Proficient use of hand/power tools, digital multimeters, cable testers, and diagnostic equipment for electronics troubleshooting and installation.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work from ladders/lifts, perform overhead installations, and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Valid Driver's License: Clean driving record and ability to operate government/rental vehicles for site-to-site travel.
- Availability: Willing and able to travel up to 75% (including occasional OCONUS deployments lasting 1-4 weeks) and respond to emergency service calls with short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret security clearance.
- AIE or DBIDS system experience: Direct familiarity with AIE, Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), or similar DoD installation access control platforms.
- Advanced certifications: CompTIA Security+, Network+, A+, or manufacturer-specific certifications (HID, NEC, Lenel, AMAG, etc.)
- Biometric systems expertise: Experience with DoD Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS), facial recognition deployment, or multi-factor authentication systems.
