Hiring Unit:
Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences
Position Summary:
- Conduct experimental research on the physicochemical properties of atmospheric aerosol particles and droplets.
- Conduct experiments using optical trapping, light-scattering, and related aerosol measurement techniques with minimal supervision.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, including measurements of particle size, refractive index, hygroscopicity, and surface tension.
- Prepare figures, research documentation, reports, presentations, and scientific manuscripts.
- Contribute intellectually to the interpretation of research results and development of new research directions.
- Provide technical guidance and training to undergraduate and graduate students as required.
Qualifications:
- Specialized knowledge of atmospheric aerosol science, physical chemistry, and aerosol physicochemical properties.
- Experience with optical and light-scattering instrumentation and techniques.
- Experience with aerosol or single-particle measurement techniques.
- Strong quantitative data-analysis and scientific computing skills.
- Ability to independently analyze and interpret complex experimental data.
- Ability to troubleshoot experimental instrumentation and develop or improve experimental procedures.
- Strong scientific writing and communication skills.
- Ability to prepare research results for presentation and publication.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a research team.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and training to students.
Experience and Education:
- Master’s degree in atmospheric science, chemistry, physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience in experimental aerosol science, physical chemistry, optical measurements, or a related field. Experience with scientific data analysis and preparation of research results for publication.
- PhD an asset
