Principal Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering at Analog Devices Limerick is a senior individual contributor role responsible for providing technical leadership across semiconductor manufacturing process integration, process enhancement, yield improvement and manufacturing efficiency, with specific accountability and Subject Matter Expert for the Deposition Work Centre. Operating at P5 Principal level, the role requires deep subject matter expertise, sound technical judgement and the ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives that improve process and device performance, manufacturability, quality, reliability and cost effectiveness. The role will also demonstrate growth toward P6 Expert expectations by shaping technical direction, influencing broader manufacturing strategy, developing engineering capability across teams and driving solutions that have sustained impact beyond a single module, toolset or product family.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Technical Leadership and Manufacturing Strategy: act as a recognized technical authority for manufacturing engineering and process integration, setting direction for complex improvement programmes and influencing site-level technical priorities that support yield, quality, cycle time, reliability and capacity objectives.
- Process Integration and Optimization: lead the integration, optimization and control of complex semiconductor manufacturing processes, ensuring process modules, unit devices, E-test and probe outcomes are aligned to deliver robust, scalable and manufacturable solutions.
- Deposition Work Center: serve as the primary technical expert for Deposition processes, equipment capability, process controls and improvement priorities, providing guidance on issue resolution, process stability, risk management and long-term capability development.
- Yield, Quality and Cost Improvement: identify and prioritize the major contributors to yield loss, process and device variation, scrap, rework and cost; develop data-led improvement strategies and partner with process, product, equipment, quality and operations teams to deliver measurable business impact.
- Complex Problem Solving and Root Cause Leadership: lead structured investigations into high-impact manufacturing issues, applying advanced root cause analysis, statistical methods and technical judgement to resolve problems where solutions are not readily defined.
- New Technology and Process Flow Enablement: partner with R&D, process development, product engineering and operations to translate new technologies, materials, process flows and device requirements into stable production capability.
- Data Analytics, Modelling and Predictive Control: use advanced data analysis, statistical process control, design of experiments and modelling approaches to identify trends, predict process risk and enable proactive decision-making across manufacturing operations.
- Cross-Functional Influence: lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams across manufacturing, process engineering, equipment engineering, product engineering, quality, planning and operations; communicate complex technical topics clearly to technical and senior business stakeholders.
- Standards, Documentation and Knowledge Transfer: establish, improve and sustain technical standards, process documentation, control strategies and lessons learned to ensure repeatable execution, compliance and knowledge sharing across teams.
- Mentoring and Capability Development: mentor engineers and technicians, build technical capability within the process engineering function and actively share expertise to raise overall team performance.
- Development Alignment: demonstrate behaviours expected of an emerging Expert by influencing work beyond the immediate team, shaping technical roadmaps, simplifying complex manufacturing challenges and delivering solutions with sustained site or business-level impact.
Skills and Technical Capabilities Required
The successful candidate will bring the technical depth, judgement and influence required to lead complex manufacturing engineering work in a high-volume semiconductor environment.
- Deep expertise in semiconductor manufacturing, process integration and equipment/process capability, with the ability to assess how process interactions affect device performance, yield, reliability and production stability.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical investigations where root cause is ambiguous, applying structured problem-solving, statistical analysis, DOE, failure analysis and sound judgement to deliver sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Advanced analytics capability, using manufacturing, yield, metrology, probe, reliability and equipment data to identify trends, manage risk and support operational decisions.
- Strong cross-functional influence, aligning technical and operational stakeholders around complex manufacturing priorities.
- Clear communicator who can simplify complex technical issues, present recommendations to senior stakeholders and document key decisions, risks and control strategies.
- Strong quality, compliance and risk mindset, with disciplined attention to process controls, change management, specification adherence and customer impact.
- Demonstrated ability to build technical capability through mentoring, knowledge sharing and support for continuous improvement.
- Readiness for broader expert-level contribution through technical direction-setting and sustained site or business-level impact.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
- Typically 10+ years of progressive experience in semiconductor manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, process integration, equipment engineering or a related high-volume advanced manufacturing environment; fewer years may be considered with a relevant master’s or doctorate degree.
- Track record of technical leadership in complex manufacturing environments, including influencing cross-functional teams and delivering measurable improvements in yield, quality, cost, reliability or manufacturing efficiency.
- Practical experience applying structured problem-solving and data-led improvement methods to resolve manufacturing issues and sustain process performance.
