American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with National Park Service (NPS), is seeking ONE Mental Health and Resilience Program Member (to contribute to the work of the Mental Health and Resilience Program, which includes the National Crisis Support Program, alongside NPS staff.

Location Details/Description: This position is virtual. Preference will be given to applicants in the Washington DC or Minnesota areas.
The Mental Health and Resilience Program member within the Wellness and Resilience Branch will provide program support to seven geographically diverse regions and over 400 units of the NPS by promoting mental health and resilience across the NPS employee base.
Position Overview:
The member will support the work of the Mental Health and Resilience Program within the NPS. The Mental Health and Resilience Program serves all NPS employees and partners, including those from varying disciplines and geographical locations. The Mental Health and Resilience Program empowers employees to support their own mental health and the mental health of others through provision of individual consultation, presentations, training, support secondary to acute or cumulative stressors, and tangible resources.
Additionally, the Mental Health and Resilience Program oversees the Crisis Support Program (CSP). The CSP provides evidence-based services to the NPS workforce to support mental health and enhance adjustment secondary to acute or cumulative stressors that occur on the job. The CSP offers services through utilization of peer supporters trained in Stress First Aid and/or Critical Incident Stress Management as well as mental health professionals.
Be advised: This position routinely addresses information pertaining to trauma, including suicide, domestic violence, and fatalities.
The member will support tasks such as:
- Collecting and analyzing CSP response data
- Conduct literature reviews focused on mental health and wellness
- Drafting mental health and wellness content, including handouts, training material, and articles for publication on the NPS intranet
- Updating existing mental health and wellness content to provide park/office staff with policy, guidance, tools, and resources
- Assisting with the coordination of services for employees secondary to exposure to a acute or cumulative stressors
- Supporting training, including training focused on basic peer support skills, Stress First Aid for NPS Employees, suicide prevention, and available mental health resources
- Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration to address employee mental health concerns
- If program needs arise, the member may accompany trained peer supporters and/or mental health providers on field visit(s) to NPS units related to Mental Health and Resilience Program activities, such as Crisis Support Program responses or trainings
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Schedule: The member will have the option to determine their 10-hour per week schedule within normal business hours (8:00 am ET through 6:00 pm ET) Monday through Friday.
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~10 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $200/week (pre-tax) to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service. If the duration of a PLC-eligible term is not long enough for Members to accrue 640 hours of service (~16 weeks), the total hours served at the completion of the term may be eligible to be combined with hours accrued from another PLC-eligible term to meet the 640 hours requirement. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age (You must be between the ages of 16 and 30. Some agencies also interpret these guidelines to include veterans up to age 35) and citizenship. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. A reimbursable taxed housing allowance of $164/week (NTE $4,100 total) for 25 weeks will be available.
Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training may include on the job training.
Qualifications
Required:
- Members must be authorized to work in the United States. ACE does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request). Members must be 21+ to drive due to ACE's insurance and liability requirements.
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.
