The role provides direction and leadership on Compliance matters to AWM Business Unit in the USA and ensures the business unit has appropriate action plans in place to address key Compliance risks. The role reports into the VP Compliance & Privacy, USA.

What will you be doing?

  • Leads the implementation of the Global Compliance Program in AWM Business Unit in USA.

  • Develops strategies and action plans to address market and BU-specific risks. Drives timely completion of risk mitigation plans and measures effectiveness of actions in reducing market risk.  
  • Keeps abreast of market, regional and global developments, and conducts benchmarking to ensure the Smith & Nephew compliance program in the BU/market represents best in class.
  • Partners with business leaders to measure, establish and monitor Compliance Culture in the BU.
  • Develops and leads effective implementation of policies and procedures for all market-specific compliance-related activities.
  • Drives local implementation of enhancements to the global compliance program and provides input and insight to potential the enhancements of the global compliance program.
  • Ensures the establishment of effective local Compliance Training and Communication programs that use novel and market-appropriate methods for delivering memorable Compliance messages.  
  • Develops and implements risk-based local monitoring program to run in parallel to global monitoring activities as required.  Supports the Global Compliance Audit and Internal Audit teams in conducting monitoring and auditing in the regions as required. 
  • Drives Third Party Seller and non-seller third party compliance management and initiatives in the region. Conducts Third Party Risk Assessments and site visits.
  • Partners with business teams to ensure local third party strategies appropriately consider compliance risks and to develop mitigation plans in partnership with the applicable business partners.
  • Represents Compliance on leadership team meetings.
  • Ensures that appropriate and consistent corrective actions are implemented for compliance issues.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):  Monitors and reports status on Compliance KPI’s.  Creates and implements action plans to address performance gaps as needed.

Location: Memphis, TN, Andover, MA, Fort Worth, TX, Austin, TX, Columbia, MD, Pittsburgh, PA, US Remote

What will you need to be successful?

  • 7–10 years of progressive healthcare compliance experience, including increasing responsibility for implementing and managing a compliance program within a complex US healthcare business. Relevant industry experience should include one or more of the following: pharmaceuticals, medical devices, pharmacy-related business models, biologics or tissue-based products, and technology-enabled healthcare solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the US laws and regulations applicable to interactions with healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act and applicable industry codes.
  • Legal background strongly preferred, including a law degree or substantial experience interpreting and applying US healthcare laws and regulations in a compliance role.
  • The role will involve up to 15% travel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to communicate complex topics in concise terms
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and to influence in a matrix organisation.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and persuasively in writing as well as the ability to draft clear and effective reports, policies etc.
  • Self- motivated and result- driven
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to persuade through positive communication.
  • Ability to work across cultures with all levels of the organization as well as with different functions.
  • Ability to detect risk areas and red flags
  • Solution-minded; desire to find innovative solutions to problems and to challenge established ways of working
  • Project management skills. Ability to follow through and complete tasks on time.

  • The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $143,000 - $235,063 USD annually. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
