Job Description
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the role of the Software Engineer is to contribute to the design and development of Epsilon’s software systems. You will work as a core member of squads that design and build from concept to working solutions. You will be required to work closely with product, testing and design to ensure the technical guidelines are met, best practices applied, and solutions delivered which are both customer focused and support the stability and extensibility of the system. Software Engineers are encouraged to work along the whole stack as applicable from frontend client, to backend service, to deployed infrastructure, and to develop specialisations into particular sub-systems based on personal interests and business needs. We are also looking for someone with additional DevOps experience for this role. The role will spend most of the time assigned to work within a squad in coding a number of development projects to build new and existing products and features.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to technical solution design within your squad, working with senior engineers to break down problems and choose pragmatic approaches
- Deliver high-quality, customer-focused software from concept to working solution, with consideration for rollout and production support
- Write and review code, design documents, and technical documentation
- Apply good engineering practices, standards, and patterns within your area of work
- Support improvements to system reliability, scalability, and operational excellence within your squad
- Draw on your DevOps experience to help maintain and improve infrastructure, build, and deployment tooling
- Participate in code reviews, standups, refinement, planning, and retrospectives
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues across code and tooling, and help close them out cleanly
Qualifications
What you’ll bring with you:
- 2 – 5 years of experience as a software engineer, with a grounding in backend development in a statically typed, compiled language (Java and Go preferred; other languages considered, with a willingness to learn Java and/or Go)
- Solid understanding of application programming, database, and system design fundamentals
- Experience with cloud-based environments and microservice architectures
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and the software development lifecycle
- Experience with unit and integration testing
- Additional experience with DevOps practices, including Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform) and containerization (e.g. Docker)
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience working both independently and collaboratively with other engineers
- Strong problem-analysis and technical documentation skills
Highly Regarded:
- Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) and Helm
- Experience with build systems such as Bazel
- Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD
- Experience with GCP (other cloud providers a positive)
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other RDBMS
Desirable:
- Background in Ad Tech, Retail Media, e-commerce, or recommendation systems
- Experience with real-time bidding, auction systems, or high-throughput data pipelines
- Exposure to frontend development in modern frameworks (e.g. React)
- Interest in developer experience and platform engineering
- Contributions to open-source projects or technical publications
