Looking for a flexible way to work with Steve & Kate’s Camp?
This Regional Substitute Camp Counselor position is designed for team members who are interested in working at Steve & Kate’s Camp on an as-needed basis across our New York region.
Rather than being hired for one specific camp location or set schedule, Regional Substitute Counselors become part of our substitute staff pool. As staffing needs arise at camps throughout the region, substitute team members may have opportunities to pick up available shifts based on their own availability and the needs of our camps.
At Steve & Kate's, we put radical trust in kids so that they learn to trust themselves. We value empowering our staff to be their whole authentic selves because everyone in our community needs to feel included! Sound like something you can get behind? If so, we're looking for team members who are motivated babysitters, teachers, coaches, students, athletes, artists, and anyone ready to play hard and be goofy. As a Steve & Kate’s staff member, you’ll sharpen your inherent leadership skills, learn some new ones, and collaborate with interesting people, all while immersing yourself in creativity and play.
Job Responsibilities
As a Regional Substitute Camp Counselor, you’ll step in to support our camp teams when additional staffing is needed. Depending on the opportunity, you may work at different Steve & Kate’s Camp locations throughout the New York region and support a variety of camp programming.
Responsibilities may include:
- Actively supervising campers and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment
- Engaging with campers and supporting their interests, activities, and play
- Supporting camp activities, programming, field trips, and daily operations as needed
- Collaborating with camp leadership and other staff members
- Ensuring compliance with Camp Policies
- Reporting and recording details of notable concerns, incidents, or injuries involving campers, staff members, or yourself
- Keeping track of and being aware of camper allergies and dietary restrictions
How does the Regional Substitute Pool work?
After completing our hiring and onboarding process, you’ll become part of our New York Regional Substitute Pool. When staffing needs become available throughout the region, substitute staff may be contacted about opportunities to work.
This is an as-needed position and does not guarantee a set number of hours or a consistent weekly schedule. Available shifts, locations, and dates will vary throughout the year based on camp programming and staffing needs.
This role can be a great fit for someone who enjoys working with kids but needs more flexibility than a traditional camp schedule.
How do you know if you’re the right candidate?
- Does the idea of guiding kids while they make decisions for themselves excite you?
- Are you looking for flexible, as-needed work rather than a set camp schedule?
- Are you open to working at different camp locations within the New York region?
- Are you calm under pressure and able to calm those around you?
- Are you comfortable leading groups of kids while still collaborating with a team?
- Are you passionate about sharing your knowledge and learning something new—even if a third grader is doing the teaching?
