CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Golf Course and Grounds Supervisor

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

This classification plans, coordinates, supervises, and performs general maintenance for the City’s golf course, grounds, facilities, and related equipment, including parks, shelters, playgrounds, courts, irrigation systems, and other Parks Department assets. Employee in this classification supervises, assigns, trains, and evaluates maintenance employees; plans and oversees golf course and grounds maintenance activities; inspects work, equipment, and facilities; performs turf and grounds maintenance; applies fertilizers and pesticides; performs preventive maintenance and repairs; maintains records; and coordinates maintenance projects and related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Supervises, assigns, trains, evaluates, and inspects the work of maintenance employees; plans and coordinates daily work assignments and monitors completion of assigned duties.
• Maintains and ensures the quality of parks, grounds, buildings, sidewalks, ballparks, courts, playgrounds, pavilions, landscaping, and trees in the parks.
• Coordinates systems to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, preventive maintenance on equipment, vehicle inspections, and procurement of needed parts.
• Maintains a valid Pesticide License; serves as primary spray technician on the golf course; applies chemicals as needed.
• Maintains flower beds and mulches beds.
• Picks up trash, moves tee markers, and fills ball washers and divot sand holders.
• Assists with irrigating the golf course and repairing the irrigation equipment.
• Seeds greens and tees; oversees golf course aeration.
• Assists in the construction of new tees and sand traps.
• Removes brush, leaves, grass clippings, litter, etc., from park grounds as needed.
• Operates a computer, including using word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
• Safely and efficiently operates various equipment, including a tractor with attachments, specialty mowers, trucks, weed eater, utility vehicle, top dresser, aerator, sod cutter, chainsaw, trencher, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in golf course or grounds maintenance and supervision, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 
• Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license
