Clamps, ties, sutures, or coagulates as directed in the surgical field. Utilizes and applies knowledge of surgical procedure and in anatomy and physiology. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients.

Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers.

Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments.

Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.

The Operating Room is a high-acuity, fast-paced surgical environment dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care across a wide range of surgical specialties. As an integral member of the perioperative team, the Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in supporting surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to ensure optimal surgical outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.

 

Surgical Technologists are responsible for preparing the operating room for procedures, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile, functional, and available. They maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and provide support throughout the procedure. Responsibilities also include assembling and organizing sterile fields, handling instruments and specimens, assisting with room turnover, and contributing to safe patient positioning and care throughout the operative process.

 

The OR environment requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to remain focused under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Qualifications:

Required Education: HS Diploma or GED.
Required Licensure: Surgical Technology experience or Graduate with a Degree in Surgical Technology or completion certification from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
Required Experience: of two years in the Operating Room
Required Certifications: Certified Surgical First Assistant within 90 days of hire/transfer.
Required Other: Maintain BLS certification
Preferred Certifications: CST
