K-8 VINE Manager

Description

The overall responsibility of the VINE Manager is to oversee and direct the VINE Special Education program on the Tempe Campus, grades K-8. This includes, but is not limited to screening potential students, supervising VINE teachers and assistants, creating learning plans in partnership with teachers and administration, while overseeing the overall program and its implementation. It also includes screening and observations for potential students in the admissions process. 

Role and Responsibilities:

• In collaboration with the campus principals and VINE Director, implements the program with the overall philosophy, goals, and objectives of the VINE Special Education Department, K-12
• In collaboration with the curriculum managers and campus principals, develops and manages the curriculum within the VINE Special Education Department ensures that it meets the school and established education standards
• Collaborate with curriculum managers to analyze data for reading and math decisions related to the VINE program 
• In collaboration with teachers and administration, assists with designing and implementing academic supports. Provides feedback during the master scheduling process
• Coordinates student evaluations with Tempe Elementary School District and coordinates student observations (in variety of school settings) for prospective students
• Interviews and processes new K-8 student enrollments into the VINE Special Education Department on the Tempe Campus. Collaborates with VINE Director, campus principals, and admissions team regarding acceptance of students needing VINE and/or intervention services
• Provides professional development activities for special education and general education staff
• Provides support as needed for special education and general education teachers
• In collaboration with teachers and administration, creates Individual Learning Plans and Accommodation Plans at the K-8 level
• Creates and maintains all VINE Special Education documentation, Individual Learning Plans, Accommodation Plans, and the VINE Special Education Department handbook on the Tempe Campus
• Collaborates with the academic team and administration to identify those in need of VINE services or support
• Communicates with school personnel and parents of students regarding progress on established goals within their VINE plan
• Support for kindergarten teachers during the enrollment process, including the Kindergarten Round Up event. Supports K-8 teachers to ensure readiness for Valley’s academic programs for VINE applicants
• Collaborates with teachers regarding students who receive accommodations, whether via VINE or an Accommodation Plan, and ensures implementation of the plans by teachers
• Adheres to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
• Performs other related assigned duties

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Conducts interviews and participates in the hiring of VINE Department staff 
• Train, supervise, counsel, schedule and evaluate performance of assigned K-8 VINE staff

• Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
• Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports and correspondents
• Must have the ability to multi-task with organization
• Must have the ability to work after hours for events and during summer months (June & July)
• Must demonstrate being a team player with a desire for the V.I.N.E. Special Education program to have a seamless integration with the rest of the school’s programs
• Must have the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with related service providers

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree and prior experience in Special Education (school setting)
• Current teaching certificate/credential
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

• Prior experience in administration or school leadership roles
• Experience with leading special education meetings
• Master's degree

Physical Requirements:

•   Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
•   Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time 
•   Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
•   At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story) 
•   Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
•   Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
•   Work in noisy and crowded school environment 
•   Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
•   Frequent walking throughout the campus
•   Must be able to travel in state between campuses, to vendors, and to related events
