Production Operator II

This is an intermediate-level position in the Production Operator series. The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform moderately complex tasks in water production system operations and maintenance. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the production supervisor under close supervision with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions, roadway traffic, related hazards, and confined spaces.

• Operates and monitors wells, pumps, booster stations, and reservoirs to regulate water pressure, supply, and quality.
• Collects water samples and performs sampling activities to support compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act standards.
• Performs preventative maintenance and basic repairs on chlorination systems, pumps, motors, and disinfection equipment.
• Operates and makes adjustments via the SCADA system.
• Conducts valve and utility line locating and maintains accurate records.
• Investigates water pressure and quality complaints.
• Operates valves and adjusts chemical dosing systems.
• Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
• Responds to emergency and after-hours issues.
• Performs building and grounds maintenance.
• Maintains logs, inspection forms, and operational records.
• Consistently keeps supervisor and relevant team members informed about work progress, current and potential issues, and proactively suggests new or improved solutions to address challenges.
• Attends approved meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
• Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
• Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
• Respects the opinion of others and maintains a positive and professional working relationship with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and/or Experience Required:

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
• Minimum of two years' work experience in water distribution system operations, maintenance, or water treatment.

Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements:

• Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
• Possession of a Class B CDL, No Restrictions with Tanker Endorsement.
• Class I Water Distribution License issued by the State of Idaho.
• Class II Water Distribution License issued by the State of Idaho within 6 months of hire.
• Must be available for a mandatory on-call rotation and able to work evenings, weekends, and varying shift hours.
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical, and drug testing to include prescription medications.
• Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol testing.

Preferred:

• Class A CDL, No Restrictions with Tanker Endorsement.
• Class I-IV Water Treatment License issued by the State of Idaho.
