About the Role

We are seeking experienced Theatre Registered Nurses for opportunities at Royal Darwin Hospital and Katherine Hospital. Whether your expertise is in Scrub/Scout, PACU, Recovery, or Anaesthetics, you will provide specialist perioperative care and work alongside surgical and anaesthetic teams to support safe patient outcomes.

Applicants with experience in one or more of these specialties are encouraged to apply. Placements will be matched to your clinical competencies and available vacancies.

Key responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within your perioperative specialty

• Complete patient assessments, safety checks, and clinical handovers

• Scrub/Scout: Prepare theatres, instruments, and equipment; maintain aseptic technique; complete surgical counts; and support the surgical team throughout procedures

• PACU/Recovery: Monitor patients following anaesthesia, assess airway and haemodynamic stability, manage pain and nausea, and identify postoperative complications

• Anaesthetics: Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, assist with airway management, and support the anaesthetist during induction, maintenance, and emergence

• Recognise clinical deterioration and respond promptly to emergencies within your scope of practice

• Administer prescribed medications and IV therapies in line with facility protocols

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe transfers and continuity of care

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures

What you'll need

• Current AHPRA Registration (Registered Nurse Division 1)

• Minimum 2 years post-graduate nursing experience in your relevant perioperative specialty

• Recent clinical experience in Scrub/Scout, PACU, Recovery, and/or Anaesthetics

• Scrub/Scout applicants: Confidence with instrumentation, surgical counts, aseptic technique, and circulating duties

• PACU/Recovery applicants: Competence in post-anaesthetic assessment, airway management, and recognition of postoperative complications

• Anaesthetics applicants: Experience assisting with anaesthetic procedures, equipment checks, and airway support

• ALS certification highly regarded, particularly for PACU, Recovery, and Anaesthetics roles

• Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative, Anaesthetic, or Recovery nursing highly regarded

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work confidently within a busy theatre team
