Technical Project Manager - Security Engineering

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to lead the delivery of security engineering projects for SIG's Dublin based Security team, which operates as part of a global infrastructure organisation supporting a fast moving, business critical trading environment. 

This is a hands on, technically grounded project management role. You will own a portfolio of security infrastructure projects spanning perimeter and internal firewalling, secure remote access, identity and authentication, web security, and security operations tooling. Many of these projects are global in scope, touch production trading systems, and involve replacing or modernising platforms that the business relies on every day. 

You will work directly with security engineers, network engineers, Windows and Linux platform teams, the security operations function, and end users including developers, quants and traders. You need enough technical depth to understand how firewalls, VPNs, authentication systems and proxies actually work, to challenge designs and assumptions, and to plan production changes that carry real operational risk. 

The successful candidate will bring structure, governance and momentum to a portfolio that has grown in both volume and complexity, protecting engineering time while keeping stakeholders aligned on scope, risk, decisions and outcomes. 

What You Will Do 

• Lead complex security infrastructure projects end to end, from requirements and technical design through pilot, production implementation, migration and operational handover. 

• Build and maintain detailed project plans covering scope, technical milestones, ownership, dependencies, change windows, rollback plans and key risks. 

• Coordinate delivery across the Dublin Security team, global security and network peers, platform engineering, service desk and business stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones. 

• Own production change planning for security projects, including change requests, impact assessment, test evidence, communication plans and approval through change governance. 

• Run design reviews and technical working sessions with engineers, ensuring architecture decisions, trade-offs and residual risks are documented and understood. 

• Manage vendor engagement for security platforms, including professional services scheduling, escalations, licensing dependencies and end of life planning. 

• Identify delivery risks, blockers and cross team dependencies early, drive resolution and escalate with clear options and recommendations where required. 

• Track security related audit and regulatory commitments that depend on project delivery and provide evidence of controls and progress to risk and compliance stakeholders. 

• Provide concise, accurate status reporting to engineering teams, global infrastructure management and senior stakeholders, translating technical detail into business impact and risk. 

• Contribute to the improvement of project delivery practices, governance and documentation standards across the Security and wider Infrastructure teams. 

 

Technical Knowledge Required 

You are not expected to configure these systems yourself, but you must understand them well enough to plan their delivery, ask the right questions and recognise when a plan carries risk. 

• Next generation firewalls: rulebase and policy structure, zones and segmentation, NAT, HA clustering, firmware upgrade paths and IPsec site to site VPN. 

• Secure remote access: Always On VPN concepts, SSL VPN, RDP gateways, device certificates, conditional access and split versus full tunnelling. 

• Identity and authentication: multi factor authentication, RADIUS, SAML and OIDC single sign on, LDAP and Active Directory, Entra ID, PKI and certificate lifecycle, passwordless and FIDO2 concepts. 

• Web and internet security: forward proxies, PAC files, URL filtering and SSL inspection, dedicated internet paths for market data and news feeds. 

• Security operations: SIEM and alert triage workflows, EDR, vulnerability and patch management, incident response process and evidence handling. 

• Core networking sufficient to reason about security changes: TCP/IP, routing, DNS, VLANs, multicast in trading environments, and how latency sensitive traffic is affected by inline security controls. 

• Frameworks and regulation as they apply to infrastructure delivery: NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS controls, and EU financial regulation such as DORA and its expectations for ICT risk, access control and testing. 

Experience 

• Eight or more years managing technical infrastructure or engineering projects, including at least four years focused on security, network or identity projects. 

• Proven delivery of at least one large scale security platform replacement or migration in a live production environment, for example VPN, MFA, firewall or identity platform replacement. 

• Direct experience planning and governing production changes on business-critical infrastructure, including maintenance windows, rollback planning and post change validation. 

• Experience coordinating multiple engineering teams, vendors and stakeholders across geographically distributed locations and time zones. 

• Experience working with security engineers, network engineers and platform teams as a peer, and with audit, risk or compliance functions on control evidence. 

• Experience within financial services, trading technology or another highly regulated, low tolerance for downtime environment is strongly preferred. 

• A background as a security or network engineer prior to moving into project management is a strong advantage. 

• Relevant certifications are welcome but not required, for example PMP, PRINCE2, CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA or Cisco CCNP Security.
