About This Opportunity
Join UQ's Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) as the Principal Advisor, Indigenous Employment and help shape a workforce where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can thrive. In this influential role, you'll lead programs and initiatives that create meaningful career opportunities, strengthen Indigenous representation across UQ and support our commitment to reconciliation, inclusion and lasting change.
Working closely with communities, leaders and stakeholders across the University, you'll help drive key Indigenous employment initiatives, including UQ's graduate and professional entry pathway programs. You'll play a pivotal role with supporting ways to increase representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within UQ’s workforce. You’ll perform an active advocacy role which fosters cultural understanding and inclusive workplaces through staff development, engagement activities and services contributing to UQ’s reconciliation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities will include:
Lead and enhance UQ's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Graduate and Professional Entry Pathways Programs.
Drive employment initiatives that increase Indigenous representation across the University.
Partner with leaders and stakeholders to support Indigenous attraction, recruitment and retention strategies.
Coordinate professional development, mentoring, training and engagement opportunities for Indigenous staff.
Build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and contribute to UQ's Reconciliation Action Plan commitments.

About You
The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
Your experience and strengths will include:
A degree in an aligned discipline such as human resources, business, or project management and or at least 4 years equivalent demonstrated professional experience and training.
Demonstrated understanding of the histories and distinct cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and an ability work with these communities.
Demonstrated high level written communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Demonstrated experience in managing projects, from inception to delivery, including the setting of performance targets, measures, reporting of outcomes and achievements.
Experience with providing general advice on policies and procedures, enterprise agreements, administrative support, and governance within a large organisation.
Experience contributing to the development, coordination and implementation of recruitment and advancement strategies and practices.
Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
Desirable
An existing connection to Indigenous communities.
Previous experience in a similar role within higher education or large organisation.
