Description
About the Firm
Weiss Asset Management is a Boston-based hedge fund managing multi-strategy investment portfolios with approximately $4.5 billion in assets under management, with additional offices in New York, San Francisco, and Hong Kong. Headquartered in Back Bay, Weiss brings together a lean, high-caliber team across Investment and Business functions to run a global, fast-moving investment platform.
About the Role
This is a full-time Spring co-op running from January through June.
As an Investment Compliance Co-op, you'll work directly with our Compliance team across investment and trading compliance, regulatory reporting, and data quality, helping ensure the rules the firm operates under are reflected accurately in the systems and processes we use every day. This is a hands-on seat close to the action: you'll test and document system upgrades, support regulatory reviews and certifications, work with data that drives compliance rules, and use automation and AI tools to make recurring processes more reliable and efficient. As you build context, you'll also take ownership of a longer-term project and gain exposure to trading systems, the trade lifecycle, security master data, and Operations workflows.
This opportunity is a great fit for someone who's precise and comfortable diving into the details, enjoys understanding how rules translate into real processes and systems, and brings a data-minded and technically curious approach to problem-solving. You should be comfortable working through documentation, spotting when something doesn't look right, testing assumptions, and using basic technical tools to automate or streamline repeatable work.
Key Responsibilities
-
Support trading and compliance system upgrades, including writing and running test scripts, validating expected behavior, and documenting results
-
Assist with regulatory work such as personal trading reviews, regulatory disclosures, periodic certifications, and related reconciliations
-
Build, pilot, and test lightweight automations and internal tools that make compliance reporting, reviews, and recurring workflows more efficient
-
Work with security and reference data to understand how data fields drive compliance rules, including owning a project that maps key security fields to the rules that depend on them
-
Develop familiarity with trading systems and the trade lifecycle, including how orders move through pre-trade checks, execution, allocation, and settlement
-
Support diligence on third-party data, research, and technology providers
-
Expand into additional areas of Compliance and the broader teams that support a multi-strategy hedge fund as you build context and comfort
What We Look For
-
Able to work independently and stay organized across multiple ongoing workstreams
-
Careful and detail-oriented, with an eye for when something doesn't look right
-
Able to navigate ambiguity and figure things out along the way
-
Comfortable asking questions, testing assumptions, and speaking up
-
Data-minded and comfortable working with structured information, reconciliations, and system outputs
-
Comfortable using basic automation, AI tools, and similar technology to streamline repeatable work; SQL experience is a plus
Compensation: Monthly compensation for this six-month co-op will range from $4,700–$5,400. Compensation within the range will reflect each candidate's relevant experience, skills, and fit for the role; not all hires should expect to start at the top of the range.
