About the role 
 

We are seeking an Injury Prevention and Management Specialist to enhance our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture. Operating within our Delivery and Risk business unit, you will drive positive change in employee health and wellbeing across the organization by developing and delivering a holistic, best-practice "Fitness for Work" program.

You’ll join an innovative team, who are a key resource of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) function and drive positive change in the health of employees at Transurban.

As our Injury Prevention and Management Specialist you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work. 

 

Day-to-day, you will: 

  • Lead the end-to-end management of workers' compensation and salary continuance claims, partnering closely with employees, people leaders and insurers to achieve positive return-to-work outcomes.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate Fitness for Work initiatives that promote physical, mental and psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Provide expert advice, coaching and guidance to leaders and employees on injury management, rehabilitation and return-to-work practices.
  • Drive improvements in claims management processes, tools, reporting and performance analysis.
  • Partner with leaders across the business to strengthen HSE culture and increase awareness of fitness-for-work responsibilities.
  • Support psychosocial risk management through training, education and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate and oversee programs relating to ergonomics, fatigue management, alcohol and other drug testing, and pre-employment medical assessments.
  • Deliver updates, presentations and communications that support continuous improvement in health, safety and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including medical providers, insurers and regulatory bodies.

 

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including: 

  • Formal qualifications in Human Resources, Health and Safety, Mental Health or a related discipline.
  • Broad experience in the end-to-end management of workers’ compensation claims, including comprehensive knowledge of best practice fitness for work initiatives and experience in the design and delivery of fitness for work and employee health activities and programs
  • A solid understanding of HSE principles and practices and extensive experience in the management of return-to-work plans for injured workers
  • Experience building trusted relationships and influencing stakeholders at all levels as well as excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to manage sensitive matters with empathy, professionalism and discretion, and proven ability to establish priorities, work to timelines, autonomously or as part of a team
  • A passion for driving cultural change and improving employee wellbeing.
  • Experience managing salary continuance claims and knowledge of HSE principles and practices will be highly regarded.
