POSITION SPECIFICS
The Penn State School of Theatre is seeking a Performing Arts Production Specialist to support Centre Stage, the School's award-winning production season and primary experiential learning environment.
This position plays an essential role in advancing both the artistic and educational mission of the School through the fabrication, installation, and support of scenery, props, and production elements that enrich the student experience and engage audiences.
Collaborative skills are essential, as this position works closely with students, faculty, and production teams in a fast-paced, welcoming, and nurturing environment to bring artistic visions to life.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Execute the construction and fabrication of set pieces for theatrical productions and events
Coordinate and oversee fabrication projects
Generate and update inventory and inspection lists related to materials and equipment
Assist in the maintenance and storage of props, scenery, and equipment
Ensure compliance with building related laws and regulations, health, safety, and fire codes;
Teach, supervise, mentor, and coach students and/or part-time worers in collaboration with students, faculty, and/or community members in the support of classes, productions, and performance
To complete the responsibilities of this position, the Performing Arts Production Specialist will:
Occasionally transport, assemble, inspect, and install production items
Maintain safe operation, training, and storage of a variety of machinery and equipment.
As such, this position will operate and work from personnel lifts that reach heights of 35 feet, move and lift heavy items, and drive a 16-foot box truck to transport items.
Important Note: Due to the events schedule of the School of Theatre, the Performing Arts Production Specialist will be required to work occasional weekends.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
3 years of experience building scenery in a scene shop setting
Demonstrated ability to independently fabricate wood and metal scenic elements from shop drawings using industry-standard techniques, tools, and practices.
Candidates must also be able to lift up to 75 pounds regularly, with or without accommodation.
It is also preferred that candidates have one or more of the following qualifications:
Experience in an educational setting working with, monitoring, and teaching students
Experience with CNC router tables
Experience with Counterweight Rigging Systems
A degree in Theatre with a production-related emphasis, or related field, is preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $44,628.00 - $64,668.00.
