Your day at NTT DATA
We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to provide technical leadership for cloud platforms supporting a Federal Government client. This is a permanent position and requires an AGSVA NV1 security clearance.
You will lead a team of Cloud Engineers, a Java Developer and System Analyst, set technical direction, and ensure the reliability, security, and continuous improvement of Azure‑based platforms operating in highly regulated government environments.
The Role
As the Technical Lead, you will be accountable for the delivery, and operation of secure cloud platforms. You will guide engineering standards, manage technical risk, and lead automation and resilience initiatives while working closely with delivery, operations, and client stakeholders.
- Lead and manage a team of Cloud Engineers, a Java Developer and System Analyst providing technical direction, mentoring, and day‑to‑day guidance.
- Own the reliability, availability, performance, and security of cloud platforms, ensuring services meet SLAs and compliance requirements.
- Design and deliver scalable, resilient cloud solutions in Microsoft Azure, including PROTECTED environments.
- Lead complex solution and platform design, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and best practices.
- Drive automation across infrastructure, deployments, and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proactively identify and remediate platform risks, bottlenecks, and recurring issues to prevent repeat incidents.
- Provide technical leadership during incidents, including root cause analysis and implementation of long‑term corrective actions.
- Oversee monitoring, metrics, and platform health using cloud‑native observability tools.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for client engagement, onsite collaboration, and solution shaping.
- Maintain high‑quality technical documentation, design artefacts, and operational runbooks.
- Collaborate with delivery and operations teams to continuously improve platform capability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Maintain currency in cloud technologies, platform engineering practices, and government security requirements.

You are a hands‑on technical leader who combines deep cloud expertise with strong people leadership. You are approachable, pragmatic, and focused on building reliable platforms and high‑performing teams.
- Proven experience designing, delivering, and operating cloud platforms in Microsoft Azure PROTECTED environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing or leading cloud or platform engineering teams.
- Strong experience with ElasticSearch in production environments.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation, particularly PowerShell.
- Experience supporting or developing Java applications on Linux, including performance tuning.
- Proven experience with automated deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, preferably Ansible and ARM templates.
- Ability to work full time from client premises in Canberra.
Desirable
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving engineering standards and best practices.
- Experience with elements of the following technology stack:
- Infrastructure & Platform: Azure Bicep, Terraform
- Data & Streaming: HBase/HDFS (HDInsight), Kafka, NiFi, Azure Big Data services
- Databases: Neo4j, PostgreSQL, Redis, Azure Cosmos DB
- Observability & Search: Kibana, Logstash
- APIs & Integration: GraphQL, WSO2 Identity Server / API Manager (or equivalents), Azure API Manager
- Identity & Access: Azure AD, ADFS
- Applications: Java Spring Boot, React (or equivalent)
- ITQSB certification highly desirable.
