Fugro’s geological and geophysical survey services provide value to your project, either alone or as a key component of an integrated site characterization effort to gain insight into ground conditions. The information helps to understand the nature and variability of ground conditions at a site or along a corridor, to guide the development of your targeted site investigation program, to determine specific engineering properties and for assessment of ground risks. 

The Field Geologist - Land will be a self-starter who can work effectively in a remote setting and will be responsible for completing all facets of an environmental and geotechnical site investigation by environmental regulations, including project and task management, subcontractor and vendor coordination, reporting, and invoice management. This individual will also be tasked with client management and proposal preparation/lead generation. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply for this opportunity!

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and place Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and the protection of the Environment as core values while never intentionally placing employees, our processes, customers, or the communities in which we live and work at risk.
  • Assist in the completion of projects and other operational tasks.
  • Coordinate with property owners and agencies in obtaining permits required for accessing sites and performing drilling.
  • Contact agencies and assist in delineating underground utility lines at the exploration area.
  • Coordinate with drillers and other agencies in scheduling the drilling activities.
  • Acquires knowledge and develops basic skills in the field of geotechnical site investigation works
  • Applies prescribed techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks
  • Perform routine technical work which does not require previous experience
  • Arrange required consumables and tooling required for logging and sampling activities.
  • Logging and sampling of soil borings and test pits will occupy the majority of the time
  • Prepare boring logs, carry out a variety of geotechnical in-situ testing, data entry such as laboratory test results, and assist with laboratory tests.
  • Be able to travel as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.
  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in geology, geosciences, or a related field; preferably a master's degree.
  • Possess understanding and knowledge of natural resources, environmental science, and geosciences.
  • Must be computer literate, and able to learn software for communication, remote work, and technical analysis.
  • Possesses basic oral and written communication skills. Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport, and have the ability to travel internationally at times.
  • Willingness to work overwater on nearshore and coastal projects, and/or on contaminated sites.
  • Must demonstrate a positive, proactive attitude, professionalism, a strong team-oriented approach and respect for others.   • A positive approach to challenges and interactions with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders is essential for success in this role
  • Willingness to work 12 hours daily, weekends included as needed.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
