About the role
The Manager Portfolio Assurance & Capability - Major Agribusiness Clients (MAC) is a specialist credit execution, quality assurance, operational risk and capability support role responsible for strengthening operational excellence across the MAC portfolio. The role will act as a custodian of credit execution quality by undertaking structured sampling and review of approved credit transactions, initially focusing on the existing MAC portfolio and subsequently monitoring of the end-to-end lending lifecycle from credit approval through to documentation, settlement, covenant establishment system maintenance and ongoing portfolio management.
The primary purpose of the role is to identify process inefficiencies, control, documentation of processes and training opportunities across the MAC Manager and Relationship Analyst (RA) teams. Through independent review, root cause analysis, process design, coaching, continuous improvement initiatives and risk-based recommendations, the role identifies process inefficiencies, documentation inconsistencies, control weakness and capability gaps.
The role works closely with the Senior Manager, MAC Relationship Analysts and the Risk & Compliance Manager (RCM) - MAC, to develop and implement best-practice operating procedures, standardise execution practices and improve consistency across the portfolio.
The primary objective is to ensure approved credit decisions are translated into accurate documentation, effective controls and high-quality portfolio management, supporting improved client outcomes, reduced operational risk and a culture of ""getting it right the first time.""
Some of the Key Areas and Responsibilities include:
Credit Execution & Quality Assurance
- Review approved facilities to ensure credit terms are accurately reflected across approvals, Letters of Offer, legal and security documentation, systems, covenants and ongoing facility maintenance.
- Assess covenant structures, reporting obligations and monitoring arrangements to ensure they are clear, practical, enforceable and appropriately managed.
Conduct structured reviews of credit files and transactions to verify consistency across approvals, documentation, systems and client records. - Identify documentation deficiencies, execution errors, policy breaches, control gaps and process inefficiencies impacting portfolio quality.
- Support the development and maintenance of execution quality standards, review methodologies and assurance checklists.
- Prepare concise reports outlining findings, root causes, risk impacts and recommended corrective actions.
Risk & Compliance Support
- Support portfolio reviews, thematic risk assessments and assurance activities across the MAC portfolio.
- Identify and assess financial and non-financial risks arising from process failures, documentation issues and control weaknesses.
- Assist with incident identification, investigation, escalation, remediation and closure of findings.
- Conduct root cause analysis and support remediation initiatives addressing documentation defects, process failures, execution inconsistencies, portfolio administration issues and operational risk events.
- Monitor the effectiveness of remediation actions and recommend preventative controls to address systemic issues and reduce recurrence.
- Provide support to the Risk & Compliance Manager - MAC during periods of leave or peak workload as required.
Process Improvement, Operational Excellence & Capability Development
- Drive consistent, best-practice execution across MAC operations through the review, standardisation and continuous improvement of lending, credit administration and portfolio management processes.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and enhance operational workflows, reducing risk, improving efficiency and delivering better client outcomes.
- Support the development, maintenance and governance of operational frameworks, procedures, playbooks, documentation standards, templates and workflow guidance, including Promapp documentation.
- Conduct reviews of end-to-end lending and portfolio management activities, including new lending, annual reviews, variations, refinancing, settlements, security management, covenant monitoring, facility maintenance and client exits, recommending improvements where required.
- Promote nationally consistent operational and credit execution standards across MAC teams through guidance, assurance activities and sharing of best practices.
- Support capability development across MAC Managers and Relationship Analysts by identifying knowledge gaps, developing learning resources, facilitating training and providing practical coaching on lending documentation, credit execution, covenant management, facility administration and operational risk management.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability and operational excellence by sharing lessons learned, identifying common execution issues and implementing targeted improvement initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with MAC Managers, Relationship Analysts, Credit Analysts.
- Provide practical guidance and constructive feedback to support improved execution and service delivery.
- Foster strong working relationships to influence positive change and continuous improvement outcomes.
- Contribute positively to team engagement, culture and organisational effectiveness
To be successful in the role, you will
- Degree qualification in Business, Commerce, Finance, Agribusiness or related discipline (preferred).
- Significant banking, agribusiness, credit administration, risk management or operational experience.
- Demonstrated experience in credit quality assurance, operational risk management, compliance or portfolio management.
- Experience reviewing end-to-end lending processes from origination through settlement and ongoing maintenance.
- Ability to analyse complex information and identify trends, themes and root causes.
- Experience developing training, coaching staff and supporting change initiatives is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of rural and agribusiness banking, including agricultural production systems, industry supply chains and customer financing requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of commercial and agribusiness lending practices, credit assessment, financial analysis and credit quality management.
- Sound knowledge of operational, financial and non-financial risk management frameworks, including portfolio governance and credit execution controls.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end lending and deal execution processes, including lending documentation, securities, conditions precedent and facility administration.
- Knowledge of portfolio management practices, including customer lifecycle management, covenant design and monitoring, waiver processes and facility maintenance.
- Understanding of prudential, regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to financial services, including the Banking Code of Practice and customer obligations.
- Knowledge of banking systems, operational excellence principles and continuous improvement methodologies, with the ability to identify opportunities for process simplification, standardisation and automation.
