Description

Job Summary

The Technical Parts Sales Representative drives OEM replacement parts revenue by using mechanical and product knowledge to diagnose customer machine needs and match them to the right part, upgrade, or service solution. This is a sales role for someone who is comfortable talking shop with maintenance managers and plant technicians — reading machine documentation, understanding how equipment systems work, and translating that knowledge into accurate quotes and closed orders.

The role also serves as the first point of contact for aftermarket customer requests, evaluating the technical scope of each inquiry and directing non-parts opportunities (service, training, retrofits, and molds) to the right internal team — while keeping full visibility of the account through the sales cycle.

Duties and Responsibilities

Parts Sales & Technical Consultation (Primary Function)

  • Sell OEM replacement parts by understanding the customer's equipment, application, and failure mode — not just processing a part number
  • Read machine drawings, exploded diagrams, and parts breakdowns to identify correct components and cross-reference alternates
  • Prepare accurate quotations and process orders, confirming pricing, lead times, and configurations
  • Use technical judgment to recommend upgraded or alternate parts when appropriate, in line with revenue and margin targets
  • Drive timely follow-up on open quotations to convert opportunities into orders
  • Utilize internal systems (Epicor, MFG/PRO, and Salesforce) to research parts, machine history, and customer activity

Customer Request Intake & Technical Evaluation

  • Serve as the first point of contact for aftermarket customer requests, including phone-based technical troubleshooting
  • Analyze customer needs — mechanical symptoms, machine model, and application — to determine scope and proper path forward
  • Gather complete customer, machine, and application details before processing a request
  • Ask the right technical questions to clarify ambiguous or incomplete requests before internal routing

Cross-Department Coordination

  • Route non-parts opportunities to the appropriate team:
  • Field Service — for service execution and scheduling
  • Training Department — for operator and maintenance training
  • R&R (Retrofit & Rebuild) — for system upgrades and rebuilds
  • Mold Sales — for molds and mold-related opportunities
  • Maintain communication across departments to keep customer accounts aligned and responsive
  • Track opportunities, customer interactions, and handoffs in Salesforce

Commercial Ownership & Accuracy

  • Own quote accuracy, completeness, and margin compliance for every opportunity
  • Keep part numbers, pricing, and configurations current
  • Ensure quoted scope matches customer requirements and machine reality
  • Support internal teams with accurate parts data to help them quote non-parts work

Documentation & Process Support

  • Route requests through Parts-US and keep work properly documented in company systems
  • Process Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) in accordance with company policy
  • Support parts-related warranty claims in coordination with the service department
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in a technical field, or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience
  • 1–3 years in technical/inside sales, parts sales, maintenance, machining, or a related mechanical trade
  • Background with industrial equipment, plastics machinery, hydraulics, or electromechanical systems strongly preferred — candidates from maintenance, millwright, technician, or military mechanical trades are encouraged to apply

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Genuine mechanical aptitude — comfortable reading schematics, exploded diagrams, and machine drawings
  • Ability to diagnose a customer's mechanical problem over the phone and translate it into the correct part or solution
  • Sales-driven mindset with the discipline to follow through on quotes and close opportunities
  • High attention to detail in quoting, order entry, and system accuracy
  • Strong communication skills — able to speak credibly with plant technicians and maintenance managers
  • Ability to manage multiple requests in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP and CRM systems (Epicor, MFG/PRO, Salesforce) — or ability to learn quickly

Work Environment

Office / Manufacturing environment. Employee may be occasionally exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock, and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, and painting.

This is an office-based position that requires walking, sitting, standing, bending, reading, seeing, hearing, speaking, concentrating, and communicating
