Position Summary

The Graduate Writing Center at Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) seeks a professional writing tutor. The tutor will work one-on-one with graduate students in graduate healthcare programs, supporting all stages of the writing process and ensuring that research projects are well-researched, well-developed, logically organized, appropriately cited, and tailored to an audience of educated professionals within each field.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized tutoring to graduate students at all stages of writing
  • Coach students to develop clear arguments, coherent organization, effective use of evidence, discipline-appropriate tone, and audience awareness
  • Guide students in research strategies, source evaluation, integration and synthesis of sources, and ethical citation practices (e.g., APA, AMA)
  • Offer feedback on structure, style, data presentation, visuals/figures, and adherence to program guidelines
  • Maintain session records and track student use of the center
  • Collaborate with graduate healthcare faculty to align tutoring with program expectations and graduate-level standards
  • Potentially facilitate small-group workshops on recurring writing needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree or in progress in Technical Writing, Rhetoric & Writing, or closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience tutoring or teaching academic/professional writing
  • Proficiency in research writing conventions, evidence synthesis, and multiple citation styles
  • Strong interpersonal skills; commitment to student-centered, strengths-based tutoring

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 10 hours per week; afternoon availability preferred to meet student demand
  • Reports to the AVP of Campus Operations and Student Success
  • Occasional flexibility for workshops or peak times may be requested
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)
