Experienced Data Governance & Protection Expert
Are you an experienced Data Protection professional who combines GDPR expertise with strong stakeholder management skills? Can you translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical and sustainable solutions?
We are looking for an experienced Data Governance & Protection Expert to strengthen ING Netherlands' Safe Data team. In this role, you will help ensure that privacy and data protection requirements are translated into clear responsibilities, effective controls and practical ways of working.
Roles & responsibilities
The Safe Data Team helps ING Netherlands handle personal data with care and comply with all relevant privacy and data protection requirements.
As Data Governance & Protection Expert, you will provide guidance and interpretations on privacy legislation, identify and assess privacy risks, and help design practical, sustainable work instructions. You will translate legal obligations and regulatory expectations into clear responsibilities, controls and work instructions, supporting ING in remaining compliant while enabling business objectives. In this role you will:
Provide expert advice and guidance on data protection and privacy matters across ING Netherlands.
Interpret relevant legislation and/or regulatory developments and translate them into practical requirements, controls and hands on work instructions.
Identify, assess and help mitigate privacy related risks.
Contribute to key data protection processes, including risk assessments, data subject rights requests, personal data breach management and maintaining a records of processing activities.
Support awareness and continuous improvement of privacy practices across ING.
The team
You will join ING Netherlands’ Safe Data Team, within this team you will be joining the Data Privacy Office and work closely with the Data Protection Executive, Data Protection Officer, Legal, Compliance, Non-Financial Risk, global privacy teams and business stakeholders. The other part of the Safe Data team covers the Data Governance aspects.

In addition to relevant privacy and data protection expertise, we are looking for someone who can effectively navigate a complex stakeholder environment and drive meaningful change.
You bring:
A Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Law.
Demonstrable expertise in GDPR and privacy-related regulation, supported by relevant certifications.
Proven experience translating regulatory requirements into operational processes, controls and practical business solutions.
Strong organizational sensitivity and the ability to balance regulatory, business and operational considerations.
At least 7 years of experience in data protection, privacy, compliance or risk management.
Experience operating in a highly regulated environment, preferably within financial services.
Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage constructively with senior management, control functions and global stakeholders.
The confidence and professional resilience to challenge decisions when required and defend well-reasoned positions.
An autonomous working style, taking ownership and driving initiatives from concept to implementation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Dutch and English.
A pragmatic mindset combined with a strong sense of accountability and delivery.
Familiarity with ING's organization and governance structure is considered a strong advantage.
