Summary/Objective

The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing construction sites assigned to them, managing direct reports, and coordinating all phases of the construction process. This role includes managing the entire build process—from the site being pinned by surveyors, through all stages of construction, to the house receiving the certificate of occupancy. The Construction Manager also assists the Director of Construction in identifying and addressing training needs for Field Supervisors and Crew Leaders.


Essential Functions

  • Manage and oversee the entire construction process from site pinning to certificate of occupancy.
  • Supervise multiple construction projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, architects, subcontractors, and trades to ensure the timely and accurate execution of all phases of the build process.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes and Habitat for Humanity standards throughout the construction process.
  • Manage, coach, and evaluate direct reports.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and address any issues.
  • Provide physical oversight and hands-on assistance, as necessary, during all phases of residential construction.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed by conducting safety training for volunteers and crews.
  • Prepare tools, materials, and task lists for each workday.
  • Assist in training Crew Leaders and Field Supervisors I and II.
  • Supervise and guide volunteers, ensuring they are appropriately trained and effectively utilized.
  • Secure job sites at the end of each workday and prepare for inclement weather.
  • Report daily progress to the Director of Construction.
  • Attend and participate in required Habitat for Humanity meetings.
  • Advocate for Habitat for Humanity’s mission.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage the build process from initial site layout and surveyor pinning to issuing the certificate of occupancy.
  • Oversee inspections and ensure that all phases meet Florida Building Code requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with local authorities and inspectors to facilitate the approval process.
  • Coordinate final walkthroughs, punch lists, and inspections leading up to the certificate of occupancy.

Hours of Work

  • The full time Construction manager works forty hours per week, typical hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Flexibility is necessary for fieldwork, evening meetings, and preparation for special events. The Construction manager is sometimes required to work on Sundays when requested and needed.


Job Requirements

  • Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and being able to communicate effectively. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Five years’ experience in residential construction, five years of supervisory experience, clear understanding of Habitat for Humanity’s mission and proven ability to train semi-skilled and unskilled volunteers.   • Education: High School Equivalent, Associates Degree preferred
  • Certification & Licensure Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record with reliable transportation. Must be able to drive Habitat’s vehicles
  • Pre-Requisite Requirements: Ability to pass Criminal Background check, Drug Screening and Sexual Offender Check
  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, donors, volunteers and the general public. Ability to speak English fluently and possess English written skills - Bi-lingual not required, definitely a plus.
  • Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Computer/Equipment Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PROCORE
