Child Support Specialist II

Join Chatham County Child Support as a Child Support Specialist II, where you'll be responsible for establishing and enforcing orders for financial and medical child support and alimony, coordinating with legal and public organizations, and maintaining thorough documentation. • Establish, review, maintain, and enforce orders for financial and medical child support and alimony. 
• Establish responsible parents' child support and alimony obligations, enforce existing child support orders, and coordinate child support activities with legal, judicial, and public organizations. 
• Receive and review cases to determine appropriate action and enter all case activity into the computer database. 
• Determine the validity of paternity claims, conduct interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents, and verify income, employment, benefits, and insurance. 
• Prepare financial worksheets and schedules based on the information gathered and propose a settlement for support and prepare and maintain all related documentation. 
• Research databases to locate absent parents, assets, or information. 
• Calculate support orders, past due amounts, and interest due on existing orders and determine and verify account balances. 
• Perform financial audits to ensure proper distribution of payments, prepare and file requests for contempt of court, and refer cases for garnishments, liens, or reliefs of stay. 
• Obtain, secure, and submit data to calculate support, support arrears, alimony, and distribution of funds for dependent children. 
• Prepare and maintain all documentation for cases settled out of court, enter support orders into the computer system, and forward information to appropriate personnel. 
• Prepare and maintain all documentation for court proceedings forwarded to the court for action. 
• Testify in court, monitor the outcome of court actions, enter support orders into the computer system based on court recommendations, and forward information to appropriate personnel. 
• Process support orders from other states, receive and review applications, and complete and process Uniform Interstate Family Support Act requests. 
• Communicate with corresponding state agencies, gather and process support orders, documentation, and other information, conduct interviews, and prepare and maintain all related documentation. 
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

• Associate Degree in a related field, and 
• At least two (2) years of experience involving interviewing and obtaining information from the public, case management, customer service, conducting financial calculations and/or transactions, or applying collection principles, gathering financial information, and scheduling payments; or 
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience. 
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects and materials up to ten (10) pounds. 
• Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute. Selected candidates will be required to complete clerical testing during the interview process. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in case management or a high-volume customer service environment.
