Description

About Hebrew Public

Hebrew Public is a national network of public charter schools that prepare students from all backgrounds to become global citizens through the study of modern Hebrew and an understanding of diverse cultures around them. Our schools are tuition-free, open to all, and rooted in academic excellence, civic engagement, and a strong sense of community. We believe that fluency in another language and meaningful exposure to another culture build curious, empathetic, and confident young people prepared to lead in a connected world.

A Pivotal Moment

Hebrew Public is in the middle of an exciting chapter. We are refreshing our brand and laying the groundwork to expand the number of schools we serve across the country. This is the first role designed to take direct ownership across two of our major regions, New York City and California, and to help knit together our growing national community. The person in this role will work in close partnership with leadership and counterparts on both coasts, and will play a meaningful part in shaping what shared programming, alumni engagement, and community building look like as our network continues to expand.

What's The Role

The Associate Director of Alumni and Community Engagement will lead Hebrew Public’s national alumni engagement strategy while managing our signature middle school travel programs, including Washington, DC and Israel, which serve as key pathways to lifelong alumni engagement. This role also provides occasional support for student recruitment and community engagement initiatives across the network.

Key Responsibilities

Alumni Program Strategy and Engagement

  • Build and lead our national alumni program, defined as students who have left our schools after 8th grade, while building bridges with current middle schoolers and their families before they graduate.
  • Design and execute quarterly regional alumni engagement events in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, with a clear arc around modern Hebrew and global citizenship.
  • Cultivate and maintain authentic, long-term relationships with alumni and their families.
  • Build and grow a mentorship program connecting alumni with one another, with current students, and with professionals in the broader community across both coasts.
  • Develop an Israel internship pathway for alumni and identify additional engagement opportunities (re-engagement trips, fellowships, leadership programs) over time.

Cross-Coast Collaboration

  • Serve as a connection between our affiliate school communities, ensuring that alumni and engagement programming feel coherent, equitable, and meaningful in both regions.
  • Partner closely with our affiliate schools, building shared calendars, shared standards, and shared infrastructure that allow programs to scale across regions as we grow.
  • Coordinate joint planning conversations and contribute to the design of programming, events, and traditions that span our network of schools nationwide.

Database and Systems

  • Own the alumni database end-to-end: clean, expand, and maintain accurate records on all alumni across the network.
  • Lead the transition to a CRM for alumni and community engagement, including implementation planning, data migration, and adoption across both organizations.
  • Establish processes, dashboards, and reporting that allow us to measure alumni engagement and program impact over time.

DC and Israel Trips

  • Project manage and lead our annual middle school Washington, DC trip on the ground (currently 8th grade, transitioning to 7th grade, with a planned 6th grade civics trip in the future).
  • Lead recruitment and family engagement efforts for all travel programs and be accountable for meeting annual participation goals.
  • Recruit a minimum of 12 alumni for the Atidim Israel summer program in Year 1, with 10% year-over-year growth thereafter.
  • Recruit a minimum of 50 students for both the 8th-grade Capstone Israel trip and the middle school Washington, DC trip, with steady annual growth that reflects the increasing number of middle schoolers across our growing network.
  • Project manage and execute all US-based logistics for the 8th-grade Capstone trip and the Atidim alumni summer program.
  • Lead recruitment, selection, and financial aid processes for trips; partner with Finance on budgets, vendor payments, and reconciliation.
  • Manage relationships with students, families, chaperones, providers, and on-the-ground partners before, during, and after each trip.
  • Travel with students as a trip leader, including overseas travel to Israel and travel to Washington, DC. (All travel expenses will be covered by the company)

Student Recruitment & Community Engagement Support

  • Represent our schools at recruitment events, open houses, tours, and community gatherings across our regions, as needed.
  • Partner with the recruitment team to ensure a strong, visible presence wherever it is needed; this is a flexible, as-needed support function rather than a primary recruitment role.

Who You Are

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in program management, alumni or community engagement, education, nonprofit, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to build something from the ground up, whether a program, a database, an event series, or a community of people.
  • This role requires someone who truly loves working with middle schoolers and has a natural ability to connect with them. Prior teaching, camp, or other youth leadership experience is strongly preferred, and the successful candidate will be someone that students genuinely enjoy being around and trust.
  • Strong project management and logistics skills, with experience leading multi-stakeholder events or trips end-to-end.
  • Experience with CRM systems; experience implementing or migrating to Salesforce is a strong plus.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the cultural intelligence to work effectively across diverse families, students, and communities, and across regions.
  • Comfort and willingness to travel frequently, including quarterly trips to Los Angeles, an annual middle school trip to Washington, DC, and travel to Israel.
  • Genuine alignment with our mission of preparing students from all backgrounds to be global citizens through educational excellence and Modern Hebrew.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant graduate work or coursework a plus.

Personal Attributes

  • Entrepreneurial, organized, and resourceful; you can hold strategy and logistics in the same hand.
  • Outstanding follow-up skills; you close loops, honor commitments, and never let a relationship, task, or detail slip through the cracks.
  • Warm, energetic, and at ease with students, families, and community partners.
  • Self-directed and accountable; you take ownership of outcomes.
  • Collaborative across teams, schools, and regions; you bring people together rather than work in silos.
