CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

Creates and assesses the daily surgical schedule, utilizing patient acuity caseload and staff ratios, to plan optimal staff utilization and functioning of the operative schedule. Ensures case readiness of all first start cases and works with other leadership personnel to anticipate changes in staffing. Plans and coordinates the daily schedule inter/intra- departmentally, to include staff breaks and lunch coverage. Maintains effective communications with all necessary personnel and surgical services departments. Ensures appropriate notification of changes to operative schedule to surgeons, anesthesiologists, Radiology, SPU and PACU personnel.  Notifies the Director of any unresolved scheduling issues. Coordinates the daily OR schedule inter/intra departmentally, to include delivery of appropriate specimens to the Pathology Department. Estimates room and time availability for schedule changes and/or added cases. Maintains accurate documentation of required quality control and department logs.  Documents data regarding problematic areas on master schedule. Resolves daily narcotic discrepancies and weekly discrepancy report. Evaluates OR schedule and implementation of same regarding effectiveness, customer satisfaction and productivity. Recommends corrective action as necessary. Guides staff, to include providing education on unit specific equipment and procedures and provides evaluative feedback as necessary for all OR staff performance evaluations. Documents clinical competency of staff as assigned and identifies staff learning needs at the unit level. Reports details to Nurse Educator and/or Manager. Attends departmental and/or unit-based meetings or acknowledges review of notes/minutes on weekly basis. Reports all unusual occurrences according to policy. Takes an active role in the units’ function by following through on assigned responsibilities as well as during emergencies to assure completion of tasks. Demonstrates safe and correct restraint procedures in accordance with hospital policy. Attends continuing education programs and utilizes the information in performance of job duties. Serves as a resource person on policy and procedures with a positive cooperative attitude. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                  

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Valid Florida RN License

BCLS for Healthcare Provider training

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
