Position Summary

The Denver Great Kids Head Start and Denver Health WIC Dietitian provides nutrition assessment, education, counseling, and care coordination to support the health and well-being of children and families enrolled in the Denver Great Kids Head Start program and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. This position collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to promote healthy nutrition practices, ensure compliance with federal nutrition program standards, and support families in achieving their nutrition goals. The role is split approximately 80% supporting Denver Great Kids Head Start and 20% supporting Denver Health WIC services. This position is funded through a grant supporting the Denver Great Kids Head Start program and is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and evaluate the dietary status of children and families participating in the Head Start and WIC programs.
• Provide individualized nutrition education and counseling to support healthy growth, development, and family wellness.
• Monitor participant progress, establish nutrition goals, and document care in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and support individualized child feeding plans.
• Perform menu evaluations and meal monitoring to ensure compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Head Start nutrition standards.
• Collect and review anthropometric measurements and laboratory data, including hemoglobin and lead results, as appropriate.
• Support families with transitions between WIC clinics, Head Start locations, and community resources to ensure continuity of care.
• Serve as a nutrition resource by presenting educational information on WIC services, healthy nutrition practices, and CACFP guidelines to Head Start staff and families.
• Participate in Health Service Committee meetings, Health Team meetings, WIC leadership meetings, and other interdisciplinary meetings to support program initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
• Promote collaboration between Denver Health WIC and Denver Great Kids Head Start to improve participant access to nutrition services and health outcomes.

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree Required

Work Experience:

• 1-3 years related experience in clinical or public health nutrition Required and

Licenses:

• DIETICIAN-Registered Dietitian Certification - CDR - Commission on Dietetic Registration Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Effective communication skills in both oral and written form.
• Demonstrates ability to delegate responsibility as appropriate.
• Ability to exercise good independent judgment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Process the ability to assess data reflecting the patient’s status and interpreting appropriate information.
• Demonstrates knowledge of disease specific and age specific nutrition standards of care.
• Demonstrates understanding of Local, State, Federal and The Joint Commission standards and regulations.
• Demonstrates competency with computer system for order entry and to update diet and patient information.
• Demonstrates understanding of how to use most current version of on-line Nutrition Care Manual.
• Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and other IT/software systems.
