The Florida State Fair Authority is proud to be recognized as one of Tampa Bay's Top Workplaces, and we're looking for a motivated, hands-on Event Services Technician to join our team. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, take pride in creating exceptional guest experiences, and like seeing the results of your work come to life, this is the opportunity for you.

As a part-time Event Services Technician, you'll play a vital role in preparing the Florida State Fairgrounds for a wide variety of events throughout the year. From setting up event spaces and maintaining our facilities to supporting exhibitors and ensuring every venue is clean, safe, and event-ready, no two days are the same. If you're dependable, team-oriented, and enjoy physical, rewarding work that makes a difference, we'd love to have you on our team.

SUMMARY

The Event Services Technician is responsible for supporting all aspects of event operations across the Florida State Fairgrounds. This position assists with event setup and teardown, facility readiness, custodial services, equipment movement, venue maintenance, and customer service to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, guests, exhibitors, and staff.

Assignments may vary based on operational needs, scheduled events, staffing requirements, and employee experience. While individual technicians may routinely specialize in event setup or custodial operations, all Event Services Technicians are expected to support the department's overall operational objectives and assist in other functional areas as directed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform event setup, reconfiguration, and teardown of tables, chairs, staging, pipe and drape, barricades, fencing, portable flooring, and other event-related equipment according to approved floor plans, work orders, and event schedules.
  2. Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and operational readiness of buildings, meeting rooms, restrooms, public areas, and event spaces through routine custodial services, event-related cleaning, and facility inspections.
  3. Read, interpret, and execute event work orders, floor plans, diagrams, schedules, and setup instructions while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  4. Assist with exhibitor, vendor, client, and contractor move-in and move-out, providing professional customer service and operational support throughout the event lifecycle.
  5. Perform waste management and sanitation duties, including trash removal, recycling, debris cleanup, spill response, restroom maintenance, replenishment of custodial supplies, and routine and deep cleaning of assigned facilities.
  6. Operate department vehicles, forklifts, aerial lifts, utility carts, cleaning equipment, power tools, and other operational equipment in accordance with training and established safety procedures.
  7. Inspect facilities, event spaces, furnishings, equipment, and operational tools before, during, and after events, reporting maintenance needs, safety concerns, damages, or operational issues promptly.
  8. Support facility operations through room resets, furniture movement, equipment staging, inventory organization, storage management, and maintaining secure, organized work and storage areas.
  9. Complete assigned pre-event, post-event, daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal operational and custodial responsibilities to ensure all facilities, event spaces, equipment, and support areas remain clean, safe, organized, and event-ready.
  10. Respond promptly to operational requests, emergency cleanup situations, weather-related impacts, and other facility support needs during events and normal business operations.
  11. Follow all Florida State Fair Authority policies, operating procedures, emergency protocols, and established safety practices, while promoting a safe environment for guests, clients, vendors, and fellow employees.
  12. Work collaboratively with Event Services, Sales, Maintenance, Security, Public Safety, and other departments to support successful event execution and daily facility operations.
  13. Provide courteous, professional, and responsive customer service while interacting with clients, exhibitors, vendors, contractors, guests, and fellow employees, representing the Florida State Fair Authority in a positive and professional manner.
  14. Support departmental cross-training and operational flexibility by performing duties outside of an employee's primary assignment, including event operations, custodial services, facility readiness, and general venue support, as directed by management.
  15. Perform other related duties, special projects, and operational assignments as required to support the mission and objectives of the Event Services Department.
