Sandoz continues to go through an exciting and transformative period as a global leader and pioneering provider of sustainable Biosimilar and Generic medicines. As we continue down this new and ambitious path, unique opportunities will present themselves, both professionally and personally. Join us, the future is ours to shape!
The Global Head Procurement BD&L – Bio Platform is a senior Procurement executive responsible for shaping the commercial and contractual foundation of Sandoz’s biologics partnerships and external value chain. Acting as a strategic partner at the intersection of BD&L, Development, Technical Operations, and Finance, the role ensures all external partnerships, licensing agreements, and supply models are structurally competitive, risk-balanced, and aligned with the long-term strategy of the Bio Platform.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Procurement Leadership in BD&L and Deal Structuring
Lead Procurement across BD&L transactions from early assessment to execution, defining and negotiating commercial models, pricing mechanisms, and contractual structures.
Assess the financial health of any new partner to safeguard a successful long-term partnership.
Drive economic competitiveness, scalability, and supply feasibility of deals, ensuring full cost transparency (incl. should-cost perspectives) and alignment with Procurement and platform strategy.
Represent Procurement in Investment Committees and BD&L governance forums.
Commercial Excellence and Value Creation
Design and implement best-in-class commercial constructs (pricing models, risk-sharing, raw material strategies) to drive lifecycle cost optimization.
Structure contracts to secure long-term value, with value-based clauses, KPIs, flexibility, and protection against cost escalation and leakage.
Drive structural COGS competitiveness and capture cross-portfolio synergies.
Identify and realize value levers across deal structures, partner models, and lifecycle phases (beyond pricing).
Build and deliver a long-term value plan targeting ~5% annual productivity, enabling first-in / last-out positioning.
Supplier & Partner Strategy (Bio Platform)
Shape and co-drive the global supplier and partner landscape, aligning BD&L partner selection with Procurement strategy and manufacturing footprint.
Drive key decisions on partner segmentation, capacity commitments and sourcing strategies, reflecting market dynamics and capacity constraints.
Develop and manage strategic partnerships with key BD&L, CMOs and biotech partners.
Risk, Supply & Contract Governance
Own the Procurement risk perspective across BD&L transactions, including supply security, capacity constraints, pricing exposure, and contract flexibility.
Assess financial health at key milestones (selection and pre-launch) to safeguard a successful launch.
Establish robust contract governance with full transparency on financial exposure and key risks.
Lead escalation and resolution of critical supplier and contract issues.
Enterprise Partnering and Capability Leadership
Act as trusted Procurement partner to BD&L, Development and Technical Operations, ensuring early involvement in strategic decisions.
Balance short-term deal priorities with long-term platform and Procurement strategy.
Build and lead a high-performing Procurement BD&L capability, fostering a culture of ownership, challenge and value creation.
What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential and Desirable Requirements:
15+ years of experience in Procurement, External Supply, or Commercial roles within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or biologics industry.
Proven track record of leading critical negotiations, establishing long-term supply agreements, and driving strategic sourcing decisions.
Deep understanding of biologics manufacturing, including the CMO/CDMO landscape, cost structures, contract frameworks, market dynamics, capacity constraints, and value-driving KPIs.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, including expertise in cost drivers, should-cost models, and value-based decision making.
Demonstrated ability to design robust and flexible pricing and contract models and realize value beyond pricing through innovative deal structures, risk-sharing approaches, and lifecycle optimization.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with proven ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across cultures, functions, and organizational boundaries.
Strong experience in strategy development, people leadership, project management, resource management, and internal and external customer engagement.
Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and execution levels, demonstrating a strong ownership mindset and a clear focus on delivering outcomes.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
