Job Description

About the Role

The Senior Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) will lead the development and execution of DE&I strategies across the U.S. region. This senior leader will partner with executives, business leaders, and HR colleagues to embed inclusive practices into business and talent strategies, strengthen organizational culture, and advance an equitable employee experience aligned with Takeda’s mission and values.

The role serves as a trusted advisor and senior coach on diversity-related topics, helping leaders navigate complex workplace dynamics, build cultural competence, and create environments where employees can thrive. The leader will also use insights, analytics, and emerging technologies—including artificial intelligence—to identify patterns, inform decisions, and guide the organization on the opportunities and risks associated with AI in DE&I and talent practices.

How You Will Contribute

  • Develop and implement an integrated U.S. regional DE&I strategy aligned with Takeda’s business priorities, values, and global DE&I framework.
  • Advise and coach executive leaders, people leaders, and senior managers on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and cultural competency topics.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex diversity matters, including inclusive leadership, bias mitigation, equitable talent practices, employee engagement, and workplace culture.
  • Use workforce insights, people analytics, and qualitative data to identify patterns, disparities, trends, and emerging opportunities across the employee experience.
  • Translate analytics into practical recommendations, measurable actions, and leadership priorities.
  • Establish DE&I dashboards, metrics, and reporting mechanisms to evaluate progress and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, Compliance, Data, Technology, and business leaders to guide the responsible use of AI in talent and DE&I-related processes.
  • Advise the organization on the potential benefits of AI, including improved insights, personalization, efficiency, and identification of workforce trends.
  • Assess and communicate AI-related risks, including algorithmic bias, disparate impact, privacy concerns, lack of transparency, data quality issues, and unintended consequences.
  • Promote governance, human oversight, ethical standards, and responsible change management for AI-enabled people practices.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to integrate DE&I principles into workforce planning, talent management, succession planning, recruitment, development, and retention strategies.
  • Partner with and mentor DE&I professionals and cross-functional teams, building organizational capability and accountability.
  • Design and oversee DE&I learning, leadership development, and coaching programs for employees and leaders across the U.S. region.
  • Collaborate with Takeda’s Employee Resource Groups (TRGs) and business stakeholders to strengthen engagement, inclusion, and community impact.
  • Lead change management and organizational development initiatives that support inclusive culture transformation.
  • Develop and manage budgets, governance processes, and operating plans for U.S. regional DE&I programs.
  • Represent Takeda in external DE&I, people analytics, and responsible AI forums and partnerships.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, HR, and other functions to support alignment with applicable diversity, equal employment opportunity, privacy, and employment-related requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience leading DE&I, organizational development, talent, culture, people analytics, or related enterprise initiatives.
  • Demonstrated measurable success developing and executing U.S. regional or enterprise-wide DE&I strategies.
  • Recognized expertise in diversity and inclusion thought leadership, advocacy, and inclusive leadership development.
  • Proven ability to coach and influence executives and senior leaders on sensitive and complex diversity topics.
  • Experience using insights, analytics, and data storytelling to identify patterns and guide organizational decisions.
  • Working knowledge of AI applications in HR, talent, workforce analytics, or organizational development, including associated ethical and operational risks.
  • Ability to assess the rewards and risks of AI and translate complex technology considerations into practical guidance for business leaders.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. workplace culture, employee relations, talent practices, privacy considerations, and equal employment opportunity principles.
  • Experience leading through senior leaders, people managers, or cross-functional teams and developing high-performing talent.
  • Advanced skills in strategic planning, program management, change management, governance, and budget management.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including executive leaders and external partners.
  • Strong organizational development, innovation, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Sound judgment when managing complex, sensitive, and confidential organizational matters.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred.

Leadership Scope and Impact

As a senior strategic leader, the Senior Director will oversee multiple DE&I programs and functional partnerships across the U.S. region, often through senior leaders, people managers, and matrixed teams. The role will shape regional policies and practices, provide guidance to senior leaders, and hold a highly influential position in advancing Takeda’s inclusive culture.

The Senior Director will also help establish a responsible, evidence-based approach to using analytics and AI in workforce and DE&I decision-making. Decisions made in this role will significantly impact employee experience, talent outcomes, organizational effectiveness, responsible technology adoption, and the success of the U.S. business.
